If you haven’t heard of The Ghost Club yet, stop what you’re doing and go listen to them now! We interviewed the band’s founder and lead singer Domenic Dunegan to get the inside scoop on the band’s journey and here’s what he had to say.
BTS: How did you all meet/ start working together?
Dunegan: The group has progressively meshed from knowing people and those people knowing people and just kinda being a tight knit community in Pittsburgh. Logan is the exception, we went to high school together.
BTS: How did you come up with your band name?
Dunegan: Whenever I first started looking for musicians I’d have friends say “yeah we will def jam” and then nothing ever comes of it. I’d have group chats and I renamed one of them “the dead club” and thought that it sounded morbid. I changed it to “the ghost club” and everyone in it was like “that’s what you should call the band” so it kinda just stuck. I don’t even believe in ghosts.
BTS: What was the process like for your single “Don’t Let Go”?
Dunegan: That one was written so long ago that I seriously can’t remember much. I remember telling my producer that I wanted to make “modern Springsteen” and he ran with the idea. My memory is horrible.
BTS: What do you hope listeners take away from it?
Dunegan: I hope people can find the strength whether they’re walking, running, or sprinting to always keep moving forward.
BTS: How would you describe the band’s overall sound?
Dunegan: We sound like a band still trying to get its footing. But I’d say we’re trying to bring some of those older influences into a modern context.
BTS: How has your childhood/ personal life impacted your music?
Dunegan: My parents music taste definitely impacted my music greatly. My parents are in their 60s so I grew up on a lot of 70s rock. Including Springsteen.
BTS: What should we expect from you next?
Dunegan: Well considering that people have responded to this song pretty kindly, it’s kinda opened up the door for me to be comfortable being myself. That’s something I hope to chase in the next batch of songs.
BTS: What are you most excited for in the future?
Dunegan: I’m honestly just most excited to get in-front of people and perform. Nothing beats it. I just want to be able to share a moment even if it’s just with one person.
BTS: What final message do you want to send to fans and listeners?
Dunegan: I’ve been going through it lately, and I had a friend share a pretty basic quote with me that helped me out and I feel like sharing it. No matter how bad things get just remember, “this too shall pass” . Thank you.
