Fresh off the release of her debut album, we had the opportunity to speak with singer/songwriter, Starley. The Australian-born, LA-based musician exploded into the pop scene with her single “Call On Me”, which has accumulated over 1 billion streams. It’s remarkable to think that Starley is just getting started with her debut album, One of One. Starley’s storytelling is on display in the 13 track album, which explores self-reflection, celebration, togetherness and most of all, authenticity. BTS: Congratulations on your debut album! How has the reception been for One of One?
Starley: Thank you! So far it’s been lovely. I’m so thankful that people are able to listen to these songs I’ve put so much work into finally.
BTS: How was it working with songwriter Amy Allen on your track “Let Me In”?
Starley: Ahh she’s amazingly prolific. It’s a blessing to have been able to team up with her with this song. She sent me a message after I released it and said how much she loves my voice and that was awesome. We’re gonna link to do more very soon.
BTS: What was the most challenging part of creating One of One?
Starley: Ahh because I live between the cities of LA and Sydney, the hardest part is to plant roots and find my creative team that I can consistently work with. I feel with this project I’ve finally found that team I’ve always wanted back in Sydney. I can’t wait to continue working with them for my future projects now!
BTS: Going off that, what was the most rewarding part of the creation process for the album?
Starley: Just seeing everything come together! It’s my first time creating a body of work and just getting to the point where I wrapped the music, then creating visual ideas and seeing them come together was the absolute best feeling!
BTS: Is there a song off the new album that you’re most excited to perform?
Starley: One of One. Can’t waittttttt!
BTS: What has been the most important thing you’ve learned from creating your first album?
Starley: That I’m a badass and I can do anything that I dream!
BTS: Are there any artists you’ve been digging as of late?
Starley: Yessss! Channel Tres, Sabrina Claudio and Ryan Beatty. Ryan Beatty has this song Casino that I’m obsessed with!
