Looking for an artist who transcends genres with ease? Look no further! Sheyda describes herself as “genreless” and creates music that hits pop, country, even electric vibes. We got to know Sheyda a bit more and talk with her about her process and approach to music and what music she’s had on repeat lately. Read on to learn more.
Beyond The Stage: How did you get started in music?
Sheyda: From a pretty young age, I was really into music. Anything I heard that I liked I committed to memory and would always want to sing and dance. I started taking singing lessons at around 9 years old and haven’t stopped since.
BTS: How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard it before?
S: I’ve been using the term “Genreless” to describe my music, I heard another artist friend of mine talk about it and I immediately connected with it. I can definitely be considered pop, but I take from a lot of different genres. I’m not afraid to use a heavy 808 sound with a country lick to make something come together; even if the resulting sound doesn’t fit in one box.
BTS: Who are some of your musical influences?
S: It honestly depends on what day of the week you ask, lol. I’m really in love with and inspired by a plethora of musicians and bands. I love Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin, but I’m also obsessed with Lauryn Hill and India Arie.

BTS: You recently dropped your latest single, “GTG” — what is the process like for making it?
S: The process for writing “GTG” was really fast. I was in a write with friends and told this story about a wild weekend, and one of the writers in the room immediately thought it needed to be a song. What took forever to figure out was the production. It was a lot of back and forth for about a year, but when it finally came together it was really gratifying.
BTS: Do you have a favorite line from the song?
S: “Always been the kind who loves the trouble, Never been the type to play it safe. Momma never raised me as a runner”…The lyrics run pretty true and it’s fun to sing.
BTS: Do you plan on releasing a video for “GTG”?
S: Yes! We just released a music video for the song, and I was so excited for the world to see it.
BTS: What are you most excited about when it’s safe to tour again?
S: Being able to get out and starting to create that face-to-face connection with fans is what I’m most looking forward to. I have yet to go on tour but that’s definitely a goal and dream of mine.
BTS: What artists have you had on repeat recently?
S: I’ve been listening to a lot of older stuff all across the board. A lot of No Doubt and Fugees; a little Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sublime. The summertime makes me nostalgic; I always end up listening to music I loved in high school.
BTS: What does the rest of 2021 have in store for you?
S: We have three more releases lined up, and some more music videos set to record. I’m open to anything and everything. I’m hoping some more performing opportunities are coming my way! I’m just excited to get out there.
