Following the release of their new single, “G.O.T.”, we caught up with hip-hop/ R&B group Minus Gravity. The trio first met during high school in San Antonio and have been making music together since. Minus Gravity recently released Moods Vol. 1, a 38-track album. Check out what Minus Gravity had to say about their music, and what’s next for the trio!
BTS: How would you describe your sound for someone who hasn’t heard it yet?
Minus Gravity: We describe our sound in moods. There are 3 of us in our group with totally different styles so you get so much of everything. It’s not really a genre, it’s a mood. we have something for you to play when you’re happy, sad, mad, excited. for every mood we have the perfect song for you
BTS: Did you think you’d be where you are today making music when you all first met in high school?
Minus Gravity: Yea, honestly we know we aren’t nearly where we want to be, everything we envisioned and said we would do has come to fruition. We have so much more work to do and so many more goals to reach. we are just getting started.
BTS: Being a trio, what is the process like for making music? Do you work collaboratively or solo on your verses?
Minus Gravity: We have been making music around each other for 15 years straight so at this point it’s sort of telekinetic. We may hum a quick melody but there are not many words we have to say to each other, the song is already there.
With 38 tracks, your latest project, Moods Vol. 1, is no small feat. What was your process like working through a project of that size?
Minus Gravity: It was really just tracks we had been working on for years we hadn’t been able to release. So we wanted to just get those out and own them, a playlist of songs we felt great about.
Do you want to talk a bit about your new track, ‘G.O.T.’?
Minus Gravity: It stands for game of thrones. It’s basically about being in a non stop battle or power struggle with someone you’re dating.
Any artists or songs that you’ve been digging lately?
Minus Gravity: For sure… James Blake just released some new music. We are from Texas so we rock with Don Toliver was jamming him years before he signed to Travis Scott.
What’s next for Minus Gravity?
Minus Gravity: Just more music, more new visuals. We have an album 90% done named ” Ownership “. Honestly still just falling in love with what we’re blessed to do everyday.
Stay up to date with Minus Gravity!
