We sat down with Connecticut-born and Las Vegas-based, Miles Arnell to learn more about how he describes his music, his dream collaborations and more. Get to know Miles below!
- Describe your sound for someone who hasn’t heard it before.
I dub it ‘Luxury Pop’, a blend of retro and modern pop, soul, funk and EDM. I try my hardest not to just mime whatever is hot on radio at the moment, but borrow from it and fuse it with my many different influences from many different genres and time periods.
- Who are your musical influences?
My biggest influences from the past are Elvis, Hall & Oates, basically all of Motown, and classic rock bands like The Doors. From today’s world, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and Robin Thicke hugely influence me on the artist side, Mark Ronson, Zedd, Charlie Puth, and Benny Blanco on the production side, and Max Martin, Shellback, Watt, and Ryan Tedder on the songwriting side. There’s many more, but those stand out for me.
- What’s your songwriting process? Does it differ every time?
My songwriting process happens one of two ways. Either I come up with a chord progression on a keyboard or guitar and write over that, or, I write over existing instrumentals or scratch tracks from collaborators. The latter has become more the norm for me, and I love doing it this way as collaboration and co-writing have become so essential in today’s songwriting landscape, and I really enjoy bouncing ideas off other writers and producers until we both have that eureka moment. I start with melodies most of the time, and fill in the blanks from there with lyrics that reflect whatever I’m feeling or want to write about. On rare occasions, I start with a title or concept first, but mostly I let that develop and evolve with the ‘feel’ of the melody and flow of the song.
- What’s your favorite way to connect with your fans?
I love instagram because of all the ways we can communicate. Whether it’s a DM, or the polls, the interactive Q&A’s, or just in the comment section, there’s so much opportunity to connect and build a community together. Outside of just music, we talk about a lot of things like staying positive and keeping each other motivated; you can follow me there and join the conversation @milesarnell
- You’ve got a lot of new music coming soon, what can you tell us about that?
I will be releasing a new single every 4-6 weeks over the next 6 months or so with an album in the works for next spring, so stay tuned!
- What’s your favorite part of performing live?
Legitimately everything, the feeling of connecting with a crowd of people and merging your energy with theirs is transcendental. It’s my ultimate outlet for expressing all the passion I have as a person for music and people.
- What’s your dream tour venue and lineup?
For me, coming from the east coast and living just one hour away from Manhattan, Madison square garden is my dream venue. Dream lineup would be Bruno Mars, MAX, and me.
- How can our readers find your music and more about you?
Find me on Instagram, Spotify, YouTube, or Facebook (Miles Arnell) or @milesarnell, or visit www.MilesArnell.com
- What’s next for you in 2019?
To begin releasing my new music and creating a lot of content around it. I encourage every reader who’s seeing this now to join me on this wild ride, become part of the story, and help me not only spread my music around, but help spread positivity and good vibes. We need unity, and part of my mission aside from just making music is to help achieve that goal of bringing people together, and helping people believe in the impossible and in themselves.
