We got to talk to the incredibly talented DJ and singer, Mahogany LOX about some of her recent singles as well as how she has been doing while social distancing. Lox released a brand new confidence anthem, “Sike,” that is sure to be her next viral song. Get to know a bit more about Mahogany LOX. Check out the interview below!
BTS: Can you tell us how you got started with making music?
MAHOGANY LOX: Honestly, I’ve been loving music as long as I can remember. When I was very young, I would always sing in the kitchen with my mom when she would cook or when driving in the car with my dad where I would sing old school R&B when it came on the radio. But my biggest influence for making music is my brother 8ky. He is still my biggest inspiration even today.
BTS: How would you describe your music for someone who hasn’t heard it before?
ML: My music is a mixture of Pop with some R&B and Hip Hop on top!
BTS: Who are some of your influences, musically and non-musically?
ML: I would say my life and musical influences are my family for sure, LMFAO, Destiny’s Child, YG, Mariah Carey, and a lot of 90’s music!
BTS: You’re related to Motown Records founder Berry Gordy and music duo LMFAO, so did you always know music was the way for you?
ML: Actually, I’ve always wanted to be a singer for as long as I can remember. But I was definitely inspired by Motown and LMFAO.
BTS: Your song “Take Your Man” went viral on tiktok how did that make you feel everyone was using and listening to it?
ML: I was in shock when “Take Your Man” hit 10million streams, it was such an amazing feeling having so many people listen to my song at once!! I still can’t believe it!
BTS: What inspired your recent single “Sike”?
ML: “Sike” is a Confidence Anthem!!! I wrote “Sike”, so the person who’s listening can sing it to themselves and feel confident!
BTS: How are you doing during quarantine? Picked up any new hobbies?
ML: I’m doing well in quarantine! I’ve gotten really good at picking out movies to watch and staying creative. I’m writing new songs, working on my DJ set and hanging with my boyfriend!!!
BTS: Do you plan on releasing any new music at this time?
ML: I actually do have more songs to release but I’m currently promoting “Take Your Man” and “Sike.” I can’t wait for y’all to hear the next one though!
BTS: Where do you hope to be career wise in five years?
ML: In five years, I would love to have completed multiple albums and several world tours!
