Supporting acts at concerts are usually very underrated, and not many people pay attention to the opener. They are there to excite the crowd before the headliner comes out. Most opening acts become very close with the person they are opening the show for. That is exactly what happened with Hey Violet.. A band you will be hearing a lot more from in the near future.
5 Seconds of Summer just finished their Rock Out with Your Socks Out arena tour, they brought “Hey Violet” along for the ride on the European and North American leg of the tour.
Hey Violet is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band consists of Miranda Miller (rhythm guitar/keyboard/vocals), Nia Lovelis (drums/vocals), Rena Lovelis (bass/lead vocals) and Casey Moreta (lead guitar). Rena and Nia are in fact sisters, while Miranda and Casey are friends of the pair.
The band was originally formed in 2008 while the group was still in middle school, they had the creative name of “Cherri Bomb”. Cherri Bomb was well known and had some success. The members were Miranda, Nia and Rena, along with Julia Pierce, who left the band in 2013 and was later replaced by Casey. In February 2015 the band changed their name to “Hey Violet” and later that March announced they were being signed too “Hi or Hey Records”, 5 Seconds Of Summer’s partnership of Capitol Records.
In June of 2015, Hey Violet announced that they would be releasing their first Ep “I Can’t Feel It” that coming July. The band joined 5SOS on their European Leg of the tour from May to June. They then rejoined 5SOS, July 17 for the North American dates of the tour. Not only did they open the show, but on both legs of the tour, they played small acoustic sets outside the venues for their fans and met as many as they could afterwards. Which in our opinion is great! Who doesn’t love to meet a good band?
Hey Violet was able to hype the crowd up before 5SOS came on. They played songs off their Ep, along with an amazing cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space”. They turned the pop song into a more guitar heavy pop song.
With positive feed back on social media, the band has seemed to have created a fan base of their own. Opening up for 5 Seconds of Summer, got their name out there, and hopefully we will be seeing them on their own headlining tour in the near future!
