Here at Beyond The Stage, we recently had the opportunity to connect with the emerging indie-pop artist, Grady! We got to know what his journey in music has been like, what inspires him and what we can expect in the future. Read on for more.
Beyond The Stage: How did you get started in music?
Grady: My parents have really good taste! I grew up listening to Erykah Badu, B52s, Bob Marley, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The White Stripes. Then I heard Enya and knew I had to make music.
BTS: How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard it before?
G: Saturday
BTS: Who are some of your musical influences?
G: Wes Anderson, the Beatles, John Mayer, my parents, Whethan, Tim Anderson, a lot of my friends…
BTS: You recently dropped a video for your latest single, “All In” — what was filming like?
G: It was my first real video with a budget and I learned a lot about what I need to do next time.
See below for the video for “All In” by Grady.
BTS: What was the writing and recording process like for the track? Was any of it different given the pandemic?
G: I’ve made this whole new project more or less following the turbulence of one relationship, which was largely made up of high points. I track mostly everything at home so the pandemic didn’t affect it much.
BTS: Do you have a favorite line from “All In”?
G: “Fuck it.”
BTS: What are you most excited about when it’s safe to tour and go to shows again?
G: Touring and going to shows again!
BTS: What artists have you had on repeat recently?
G: Johnny Mathis, Joni Mitchell, Jim Croce, Connie Francis, Ray Charles, Sueco The Child, Beatles, Jack Johnson, Reaper, BabyJake
BTS: What does the rest of 2021 have in store for you?
G: Endlessly debating release dates.
