Beyond The Stage got to catch up with up-and-comer country-pop artist Georgia Webster. We chatted about all things music, her story and what’s next for her. Read on for all the details!
Beyond The Stage: How did you get started in music?
Georgia Webster: I think I got started in music when I first heard my dad play guitar. He used to play acoustic for fun some nights when I was younger and my sister and I would dance around the house to it. My dad taught me a few chords and then from there. I started teaching myself.
BTS: How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard it before?GW: I would describe my sound to people as young Taylor Swift meets Julia Michaels — I think that would be the best way to put it.
BTS: Who are some of your musical influences?
GW: Some of my musical influences in the country world are Kacey Musgraves, Ingrid Andress, Morgan Wallen, Sam Hunt, and Carrie Underwood. In the more pop realm, I really love Lennon Stella, JP Saxe, Julia Michaels, Taylor Swift.
BTS: What was the writing/recording process like for your single, “UGLY”?
GW: I wrote “First Goodbye” really quickly actually, it was ten or 15 minutes. I wrote it while I was on vacation and missing my boyfriend and kind of contemplating whether we should stay together or not when I was planning to move to Nashville. So, I was definitely very emotional, which is why it took such a short time. Then, recording it with Paul was tricky because I didn’t want it to feel sleepy, but I also wanted to keep the raw emotion in there as well, which I think Paul achieved really nicely.
BTS: Do you have a favorite line from the song?
GW: “I can’t stop going back and forth/I keep asking myself/if freedom and growing are worth being alone.”

BTS: Do you have more singles lined up?
GW: Yes, I have a few planned out! Hopefully, a new single next month that I’m wicked excited about!
BTS: What are you most excited about now that tours are coming back?
GW: I’m excited to get to play for people!! I’m going on tour with one of my favorite artists Ingrid Andress, and I really haven’t ever played for more than 100 people. So it’ll definitely be crazy for me.
BTS: What artists have you had on repeat recently?
GW: Ooooo, I’ve had Jeremy Zucker on repeat A LOT. I’m pretty obsessed with him. I’ve also recently discovered Judah & The Lion and am really into it.
BTS: What does the rest of 2021 have in store for you?
GW: The rest of 2021 will definitely be busy, I have my first tour coming up in September and then some more music coming out, I hope!
