“Well my name is Gavin Haley. I’m a musician. And I like to listen to most things.”
22-year-old Gavin Haley made his debut into the music scene with his first project, Long Game, captivating listeners with his smooth, calm vocals while fusing acoustic, pop, and electronic sounds.
How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your music before?
I think my sound is a mixture of a lot of things. It feels good. I’ve listened to a lot of Christian music growing up and that’s heavily influenced with the way my music feels more so. But, I’ll listen to hella rap. So I kind of just make whatever feels good.
What are some inspirations for your music?
I think musically my sound is just really inspired by mostly organic sounding things. I love the ability to play guitar in an empty room – everything that I put in my music I want to feel more natural. I also love electronic stuff. I love Frank Ocean. I love even trap artists like Trippie Redd. I also love Juice and X – rest in peace. Those are some of my favorite artists.
You recently released Long Game – take me through the process and the inspiration behind that project.
Long Game is my first project I ever put out so the inspiration for it was getting a first look and project out. I realized I wanted to do music when I was 19; I’m 22 now and I feel like the three years leading into this project is me putting an arrow on what I want to be as an artist. I’ve wrote hundreds of songs literally to get to this point and it was just about putting something out that was true to me.
What’s your favorite track off of Long Game and what’s your favorite track to perform live?
My favorite track off of Long Game right now (it changes) probably would have to be “The Way I Am” and then my favorite one to perform live is “Long Game”.
How do you connect with your listeners?
All through social media. My fans are literally my family. For the longest time I didn’t have many supporters and this year’s been the first time I’ve had that. My fans are on all social media – mainly on Instagram and on Twitter.
What’s something readers should know about you know?
If you see me come up and give me a hug. I give great hugs. I love basketball. And I’m a human being. I think for the longest time I used to look at artists and other people different, but I think we’re all here to be inspired and get through life how we get through it.
What’s next for 2020?
I can’t say much, but more shows, more everything. 2019 was really the birth of something special and 2020 will just be building off of that.
