We love the opportunity to discover new artists from all over the world. We recently had the chance to be introduced to Denis Coleman, who is an American artist now based in London.
With the release of his new single “Imperfect,” Denis Coleman is going to be taking the music world by storm. A pop hit, rising up the charts, Coleman described his single as a confession and a promise all in one. “Imperfect is one of my favorite songs I’ve written, and its meaning really comes through on two levels. Firstly, there’s me, singing to a girl about how I’m perfectly imperfect for her. It’s kind of a promise, a sort of self-promotion and a confession at the same time.”
Denis, who is just sixteen years old is the total package, singer, songwriter, and musician. Being as young as he is, you’d think the music he makes is just another song you can dance to, but Denis, wants us to know its more than that.
“I try to create music that’s fun to listen to, that you can dance to and that is musically interesting and get across a positive meaning at the same time.”
It is so important these days to create songs with a catchy beat but a positive message as well and we think Denis is accomplishing that just fine. Every artist has a specific sound they try to maintain and often change it up as time goes on, for Denis he describes his music as a blend of genres.
“My music is a blend of pop, R&B and some elements of experimental electronic music. Somewhere between Chris Brown, Justin Bieber and Mura Masa.” It is fantastic that he is able to be so diverse with is songs and experiment among different genres.
As an artist, it can be difficult and hard at times, but if you have a good support system and someone who inspires you, it makes it a bit easier.
“My parents have always been incredibly supportive of me in all that I have done and have constantly inspired to follow my dreams and be the best that I can.”
Not only is Denis inspired by his parents and thankful for their support, but he was also motivated by the one and only Justin Bieber.
“For me, I think hearing Justin Bieber’s Purpose album really inspired to me to start trying to make music like that.”
Following who he is inspired by, he also let us in on who he looks up to as well.
“There are so many people (too many to name) but someone who I would say is the biggest one for me is the songwriter/producer Max Martin who, it seems, has been behind every major hit ever basically The scale and quality of his work amazes and inspires me every day.”
Coleman is currently on tour with The Vamps and seems to be enjoying every second of it.
“Touring with the Vamps has literally been a dream come true, I actually saw them live one year ago and thought that I would be amazing to be in that stage with them and now I am a year later – it’s actually insane.”
Following who he is on tour with, he also said if he could tour with anyone else it would be Bruno Mars, because of how inspirational and talented he is. We could not agree more and applaud him for having such great taste in music! Since he is on tour, Denis shared with us some of his favorite things about performing.
“When I go on stage, there’s definitely a big adrenaline rush – and the screaming fans help – but for me I think what I love most of all is performing something meaningful that I wrote about my life and seeing other people relate. Being able to see people understanding my music and finding peace in it is something truly incredible.”
Getting to perform at his dream venue The O2 in London, Denis is sure all his dreams are coming true. In the next 5 years, he hopes to see himself as a globally renowned artist who is able to help people with his music and perform at venues across the world. For now, he will be finishing the tour with The Vamps and performing some solo shows as well as some festivals over this upcoming summer. This fall, he is set to release his debut EP, which we cannot wait for.
