Here at Beyond The Stage, we love talking new music. That’s exactly what we did with the 23-year-old singer-songwriter, Cian Ducrot. He chatted about his new track that dropped today, “Know Me Again” — and how he and fellow singer Cate were able to take a song from a voice note over FaceTime to making it something special. Read on to find out more about the track and more about Cian Ducrot!
Beyond The Stage: How did you first get started in music?
Cian Ducrot: My parents were both professional classical musicians so I was born into it, but I loved it my whole life! I don’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a musician or be on stage.
BTS: How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard it before?
CD: Raw and real, with a classic but modern feel.
BTS: Who are some of your influences (both musical and non-musical)?
CD: Elton John, John Mayer, Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay; anything super real and honest.
BTS: You’re dropped your latest single, “Know Me Again” today. What was the inspiration for the track?
CD: We started the song when Cate had her heart broken. While I was in London and Cate was in Vancouver, we were writing 5+ songs a week over FaceTime and voice notes. One of the songs was “Know Me Again”, but we put it aside and then kind of forgot about it! A few months later, we moved in together in London and my 5-year relationship had just come to an end. I was so heartbroken and somehow the song reappeared. I cried so much as it took a whole new light for me! This is when we properly sat down to finish writing it!
BTS: What was the writing and recording process like for the song?
CD: Most of it was done on FaceTime and voice notes, then afterward, we finished it in our little flat we lived in, in Chalk Farm during lockdown.
BTS: Do you have a favorite line or part of “Know Me Again”?
CD: “Now that you know me you chose not to love me at all” – I think this line sums up the harsh reality of love and relationships sometimes where you get to know someone so well that you eventually decide you don’t want to be with them or know them anymore (or vice versa, the person you love eventually feels that way.) It’s crazy to think that you always end a relationship at the point when you know the person the best! Kinda scary!

BTS: What are you most excited about when it’s safe to tour again?
CD: My first tour– I can’t wait to play live! I’ve never had a proper tour experience! I want to meet my fans after this crazy pandemic! I can’t wait to be squeezed in a little tour van and driving around the country seeing all these people and cities I’ve never seen before.
BTS: What have you been listening to lately?
CD: My own unreleased music, haha. Honestly, I try not to listen to too much music cause I don!t wanna be super-influenced by it when I’m writing most days, but the last week I’ve been listening to loads of 1950s, like Frank Sinatra.
BTS: What does the rest of 2021 have in store for you?
CD: A WILD RIDE! Lots of music and shows and I can’t wait!
