We recently caught up with duo Black Caviar, who recently released their new EP, Rivington & Ludlow. The two have been widely recognized for their tracks ‘Coco’ and ‘What’s Up Danger’, which was a part of the ‘Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse’ soundtrack. Their new EP furthers their unique blend of New Orleans bounce, Chicago house, and NYC hip-hop while garnering features from G.L.A.M. and UNIIQU3. Check out what Black Caviar had to say about their new project below!
BTS: How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it yet? Black Caviar: Energetic rhythmic dance music that sometimes leans more House/EDM, sometimes more Hip-Hop, and tends to sound good in commercials.
BTS: Being a duo, what is your workflow like when creating music? Do you each have specific roles or does it change with each track?
Black Caviar: We will both look around separately for vocalists or top-lines to work with. We’ll get together when we have a few ideas for the track and discuss before we dive in, but in most instances the actual songs start and finish with both of us together.
BTS: Whether it be in feature films, commercials or TV shows, your music has been heard by many. Is there a single instance where your music was featured that stands out amongst others?
Black Caviar: Our song “What’s Up Danger” was featured in the Spiderman – Into The Spiderverse movie which was huge for us, but one of our favorite moments ever was when Will Smith said on French TV how much he loves to dance to our song Coco. Growing up a huge fan of his music and acting, it was definitely a big moment for us!
BTS: Your new EP, Rivington & Ludlow, is set to drop later this week, what should we expect as listeners?
Black Caviar: We went a little more of a hip-hop vibe for this EP. It’s fun and upbeat. One song will make you want to dance, another will make you bounce and groove, then before you know it you’ll be twerking uncontrollably.
BTS: Is there a track off the new EP that you are most looking forward to performing when shows are back?
Black Caviar: Probably “Own My Own Masters”. It’s an uptempo breakbeat with a laid back funky groove.

BTS: Any artists or songs that you’ve been digging lately?
Black Caviar: Cloonee is really on fire right now, and we love his music. Every song he puts out is dope!
BTS: Any big plans for the rest of 2021?
Black Caviar: Being locked down last year gave us a chance to really focus on writing music, and think we’ve written the best tunes in our career so far. So it’s getting these songs out and hopefully people will enjoy them.
Stay up to date with Black Caviar!
