At just 22 years old, Abby Anderson is already being called one of country’s newest breakout stars. Her soulful voice, poignant lyrics, and bubbly personality are just a few of the ways she is making herself known in the increasingly saturated world of country music. We were lucky enough to talk to Anderson about her start with music, her new single “GOOD LORD”, and her plans for the future!
BTS: Hi Abby! Can you introduce yourself to those who might not be familiar
with you?
Abby Anderson: My name is Abby Anderson and I’m just a girl from Dallas Texas who thinks she’s pretty dang lucky to do what she loves every day. I come from a family of seven kids and we were all raised on a steady diet of lots of love and all kinds
of music. I caught the country music bug at the age of 7 and always knew I
wanted to be a big ole country star one day haha the older I get though, that
dream has changed to wanting to spread as much joy as I can to as many
people as possible in the short time I get here on earth.
BTS: How would you describe your music?
AA: It’s a little bit of everything!! I mean country is definitely the core but it’s soulful, pop and confident. When people listen to my music, I want them to feel empowered and dance in their cars like nobody’s watchin’.
BTS: How did you get started making music?
AA: My parents put me in classical piano lessons when I was five. Practicing was unnegotiable in our home and I hated reading notes on a page and being told what to play and how to play it. One day my piano teacher told me to play
anything I wanted. So I made something up. Melodies I heard in my head. He
told me to make up a song for every classical piece I learned. And pretty soon I
declared myself a little songwriter haha.
BTS: Who are some of your musical inspirations?
AA: Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, KT Olsin, Ronnie Milsap, Roy Orbison and so many more.
BTS: You’ve had some major publications sing your praises. How does it feel
to be recognized on such a large scale?
AA: Oh man I haven’t been asked this before! I think the best word to describe it and honestly any recognition I get is “humbled”. I truly am. I would
be singing and writing whether people wrote about it or not, but to have some
kind of affirmation from writers and publications that I read as a kid to
discover my favorite artists, it really is humbling and I’m very thankful for it.
Puts a big skip in your step.
BTS: What inspired your new single “GOOD LORD”?
AA: My Georgia man! We’ve been dating for a little over a year now and he truly is my biggest blessing. I never realized how important it is to have a safe
place, someone who supports you and wants you to succeed even if it means
being away from that person until I met him. He supports me and I support
him. So, yes, “Good Lord, I got a good man”.
BTS: What can we expect from you in the future?
AA: World domination baby! I have the best team out there. My management, record label, and booking agency. They can only do with what I
give them musically. So I plan on creating and putting out the best songs I can.
Get better at my craft everyday and continue to grow personally and
professionally. I wake up excited everyday because of our vision for the future
and where things are going.
BTS: Now a couple of silly questions! What’s your Starbucks order?
AA: If I do coffee I’ll do a small decaf. (Yes I’m that person haha) and then I LOVEEE their breakfast sandwiches. Those are always a go-to while traveling.
BTS: What’s your current Netflix binge?
AA: HANDMAID’S TALE OH MY HECK THIRD SEASON IS ALMOST OUT.
BTS: Finally, If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring
one album with you, what album would it be?
AA: Probablyyyy “come away with me” by Norah Jones. I love that album and if I were stranded on an island alone I feel like it’s the one album I could listen to
and be relaxed and forget about the fact that I was stranded alone on an island lol.
