- Introduce Yourselves:
I’m Tyler. I play guitar and sing for the Tisburys.
I’m Zac and I play bass for the Tisburys.
- When and how did you form?
Tyler: We’ve been playing together for 4 or 5 years now, but we’re all friends from high school. So we started out The Tisburys in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where we’re all from and Zac just joined us 6 months ago, because our old bass player moved to Colorado to go to college, but Zach has been a great addition to the band and has definitely upped our live show a lot with his on stage antics.
- Describe your sound to our readers
Tyler: Not “dad rock” like Steely Dan, but more like Wilco.
- What are your musical influences?
Tyler: I really like loud music that’s fun and that is catchy. My favorite band is The Strokes, but The Tisburys is more influenced by Americana and rock n’roll types like Wilco, Ryan Adams, and I really like The National. Good lyrics, catchy stuff.
Zac: I personally like anything with real instruments that you can dance to and I guess my personal influences is a little different from what I usually play in the band, but my favorite band is probably Owen or American Football. I’m in love with them, but I just like anything that can get people moving, anything you can get drunk to.
- If you could plan your dream tour, who would be on it and why?
Tyler: The Beatles, Ryan Adams, and Metallica and then The Tisburys headline.
Zac: I would have to agree with The Beatles of course and if we played with Wilco that be great. I would actually say if we could tour with The Arctic Monkeys, I feel like that be amazing
Tyler and Zac: Matt would say Blink-182 and Motion City Soundtrack.
- What are your plans for 2017?
Tyler: We just put this EP out and 3 songs. We just wanted to capture where we’re at in the moment with our whole live thing that we’re doing, but I would like to do a full album or at least start working on a full album. Maybe out later this year, maybe next spring like whenever we can get together and work on it.
- One thing you love about Philly?
Tyler: The music is great. My favorite Philly band would have to be Hurry. I also just saw Ron Gallo, his record is coming out soon and I saw him at XPN.
Zac: My favorite band to come from Philly isn’t even a band anymore, Algernon Cadwallader. I was obsessed with them.
Tyler: Hop Along too. And CRUSIR is great too. I heard them back in 2012 and they had their EP and I thought “this is the greatest”.
- Current Song Obsession
Zac: My song obsession always a 100% of time is “Come on Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners. Best song ever written.
Tyler: I’ve been listening to Chance the Rapper a lot recently.
- A song you wished you wrote?
Zac: If I could have written any song ever it would most definitely be “Come On Eileen”.
Tyler: “Hungry Heart” by Bruce Springsteen.
- What Musician would you bring back from the dead?
Tyler: What’s not the obvious one?
BTS: Let me guess Kurt Cobain?
Tyler: I was going to say him or Hendrix. Jimmy Hendrix. I will also say Bowie and Prince.
Zac: There’s like so many. That’s a tough one. I’m trying to wonder who’s not dead yet. That’s a tough one for me, but I’m going to with Jim Morrison for me. I love Jim Morrison.
