- Introduce yourselves
Hi, I’m Chris. I am the singer!
- Can you describe your sound for someone who hasn’t heard it before?
It’s our special blend of pop and rock and magic. It will make you dance and sing along, and you’ll be like, “damn, I wish I heard this sooner!”
- You guys have worked with some big names over the last couple of years, can you describe what that was like?
It’s always amazing to collaborate with talented people, I haven’t gotten sick of it yet but I’ll let you know when I do! I love it when you hear someone’s ideas and they immediately vibe with what you’re thinking.
- What was something you learned from working with big names in the industry?
Hard work and consistency are super important parts of success. Don’t ever compromise your artistic vision. Always stand up for yourself and don’t let yourself be bullied. Quality is much more important than quantity, unless you’re Lil’ B.
- Your new EP dropped in July, what was the process like for building that music?
It was super fun working with Mike Molina and Nelly Kyle on the new EP. They are great gentleman and extremely talented producers. Building the songs, which is my favorite part of this whole career path, was super fun and flew by really fast. I went out to LA and worked with them for two weeks and they brought in some other writers to collaborate with and we all had a grand old time.
- What music influenced that sound?
I was listening to a lot of Grimes at the time, if I recall correctly. And we live in a post-1989 world now so obviously Tay Tay influenced the record some. Depeche Mode. Chvrches.
- What experiences influenced that sound?
My girlfriend at the time—I find that I have a lot to say about the whole dating process. I also wanted to encapsulate the concept of “winning” in a song, so I did that as well.
- You’ve premiered your music and been reviewed by some big names in media (BuzzFeed, Twist Magazine), was that something you ever expected?
As someone who has always wanted a career in music, I hoped that it would eventually start happening. Did I expect it to happen so soon? Definitely not. Was it an incredible surprise that I am super grateful for and humbled by? Definitely yes.
- What’s something you want your fans or future fans to know about Plaid Brixx?
We aren’t going away, so if you don’t like us then consider me the harbinger of bad news. That aside, we are super grateful for everyone that has been supportive of us to this point. We would be nowhere without an immense amount of love and assistance from a lot of great people and we won’t ever forget anyone who helps us out along the way.
- What’s next for you guys in 2016?
We have a few college shows followed by a few shows in Toronto for Indie Week Canada! It will be our first time playing music in another country so we could not be more excited! Plus Toronto is an amazing city that I look forward to exploring further!
