This week, Beyond the Stage caught up with the band HEIRSOUND and learn more about them. Check out our interview below, and learn about their band name, influences and more!
How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?
Dane: When people who haven’t heard of us before ask me about our sound, I tell them we think it has something for everyone but to simply listen & decide for themselves. Music taste, in general, is objective & even I can’t pinpoint one “genre’ name for HEIRSOUND. But we have confidence that if anything, our music will grow & stick with you if you give it a chance.
How did you come up with the band name HEIRSOUND?
Dane: Alexa & I started HEIRSOUND coming out of two previous projects & for this reason we originally landed on HEIR. We let it sit for a few days. Then as we began to create our website & social media behind the scenes, the handle for everything became HEIRSOUND. We realized this & really quickly felt this name felt right. Merging together from a long line of musical history/collaboration both separately & together briefly, to grow together through a new sound that we could hopefully call our own was the goal. We felt like the name was unique & describes who we are as well as where we wanted to go.
What are you most proud of accomplishing this far in your career?
Dane: Establishing connections with people around the world through our music.
What is one you goal you have to complete by the end of 2017?
Dane: To get some great new shows under our belt in as many places as possible.
Who are your musical influences?
Dane: We usually go with everything from Death Cab [For Cutie] to Kanye haha
If you could collaborate with any musician, who would it be and why?
Dane: If this question came up a few months back, I’d say Kc Dalager from Now, Now for a lot of reasons. Beyond her being a great friend, the inspiration I get from her both musically & personally makes her a dream collab for sure. BUT, we had the pleasure to do so recently for our new song “Next Life” from Layers Vol. 2 which will be out by the time this interview is so we’re really stoked & honored to have her.
What do you hope fans get from your music?
Dane: An escape, a positive outlook or new perspective on something, inspiration to turn even the most negative situations into something positive.
What music venue has been your favorite to perform at and what music venue do you aspire to perform at one day?
Dane: HEIRSOUND has had a handful of New York shows while in residency at a venue called Amityville Music Hall. A cool venue that, to me, is sort of a halfway point between kids from Long Island & kids from NYC which seemed to give a lot of people a chance to come see us.
Dream venues for me are MSG, Red Rocks Ampitheater, & The Hollywood Bowl.
