Following the release of his 2019 sophomore album Sweet Insomnia, R&B artist Gallant makes his return to the music scene on Friday, January 15 with new single, “Comeback.” It is the first single off his upcoming EP, Neptune.
This smooth track brought throwback vibes similar to the likes of Ginuwine, Usher and Brandy. The guitar sounds that make up the backbone of this track are reminiscent of Destiny’s Child’s song “Bills, Bills, Bills.”
The Maryland native also released the music video for “Comeback.” The video is light, comical and quite nostalgic, paying an homage to the style of 2000s R&B music videos. It is decorated with symbols of the past such as the flip phone, big-box TV sets, and even the pink cat-eyed glasses.
It is refreshing to hear Gallant take us back in time, and many others agree too. “Comeback” has already garnered over 232K streams with the music video having 48.7K views.
The 29-year-old R&B singer has also dropped hints and teasers on social media about the EP. No dates have been revealed yet. But, he curated a playlist on Spotify called “songs that inspired Neptune.” The playlist is filled with many throwback hits from artists such as Janet Jackson, Ne-Yo, Babyface and more!
“Comeback” also marks Gallant’s first release as a newly independent artist. He was previously signed to Mind of a Genius Records and Warner Bros. Records before announcing his indie status through social media.

Gallant also shared a link to a website where people can buy merchandise. It is designed as an interactive interstellar map where you can drag the screen to reveal images of space and Gallant himself.
From the lyrics of “Comeback” to his website, the planet Neptune and space itself are certain to have a strong influence over the production of his next project. We will have to wait and see later on for what it all means.
So far, Neptune looks to be a promising debut indie project paying an homage to the nostalgic vibe of 90s and 2000s R&B and we are here for it!
