Mikey Hart, also known as Ex Reyes is a man of imagination and wonder. The Louisiana native is back with a new song entitled ‘Only You’. It’s a track that will leave you with a sense of mystery and a great imagination. If you’re thinking from the Owl City lens, then you’re spot on. Ex Reyes new track is the epitome of Owl City’s child transcending into newer heights.
Not only can ‘Only You’ be compared to the one man band Owl City but it’s also filled with sounds of inspiration built from Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective. It’s a blend of each group coming together, making something much greater and mystical then what’s come before.
The introduction to the track transcends into a down-tempo mystical melody with catchy lyrics throughout. ‘Only You’ sparkles with fun pop grooves that fit best for a rainy day.” When I was writing ‘Only You,’ I was obsessed with ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’ by The Shirelles,” explains Hart. “I liked the idea of flipping the typical role of the male in the ‘go home with me tonight’ thing, so I tried to focus on the bewilderment of love entering into these very minute, common things like ‘should we share a taxi?'” It’s a fantastic idea from Ex Reyes, and we are sure to here much more coming from his debut LP that will be released in the near future.
You can listen to ‘Only You’ now on Soundcloud.
