R&B singer-songwriter Emeryld premiered the music video for her latest single “Right There” today. The song was released last Friday, December 11 on all streaming platforms. It is the first single from her forthcoming mixtape set to be released early next year.
“‘Right There” feels like a slow motion bike ride towards the sunset on an early winter evening…that’s just a little too cold to bare,” said Emeryld.
The raw, introspective new single showcased her ability to tell a story through silky-smooth lyrics and smoky vocals. She reflects on her mental health journey and paints the stages of grief as she wrestles with the afterthoughts of a traumatizing breakup filled with gaslighting.
She shared more about her personal experience that inspired the song with Beyond the Stage (BTS):
“At 20, I got into a relationship with a very narcissistic and emotionally abusive person who was never satisfied,” Emeryld said. “I was never enough for them no matter how much I tried.”
The visual of “Right There” was a special moment for Emeryld as she was the project’s Creative Director (CD) and Producer. In regards to bringing her vision to life in video form, it was the most involved she’s ever been in the creative steps.
She told BTS what it was like to step into these new roles and what it meant for her now and in the future:
“To be able to step into a CD/Producer role was such a highlight and goal for me. I want to continue to do it forever and even do it for other artists. Kevin Abstract is such a huge inspiration for me because he has a hand in everything because of his relentless vision, and I aspire to be the female version of that.”

Emeryld said that the video visualizes “the mental mess your mind goes through when you’ve been gaslit and can’t quite comprehend what memories of a past love are true or idealized. It’s about allowing yourself to break down because that’s what feels right in that moment, and rising from what feels like rock bottom with a newfound healthier mindset and outlook on love.”
Her openness and vulnerability are things that weren’t always easy, comfortable, or natural. Sharing how she felt aloud through her lyrics was something she had to grow into.
“Before, it was hard to write about [mental health] because I myself was spiraling, and music was what I used to escape that feeling – but I’ve recently found a new sense of freedom by writing about [my struggles],” Emeryld said. “We all struggle, and I just want to be a voice for that part of all of us, especially to people who feel like outsiders because of it.”
Emeryld is a rising artist who is no stranger to the music scene. She has already made a name for herself, having collaborated with Atlanta Hip-hop duo EARTHGANG in her most successful single to date “Hope You’re Happy.” It has accumulated over 4 million plays across streaming services, including three million from Spotify where she has over 53 thousand monthly listeners. “Hope You’re Happy” is from her debut EP Young from 2019. The EP also includes another single “Young” released in April 2019, a month before the EP.

She has been featured on various tastemaker editorial playlists, including Spotify’s New Music Friday, R&B Feels, Alt RnB, and Fresh and Chill. On Apple Music she was recognized on the Hot New R&B and The A-List playlists.
The 23-year-old’s unique work is defined by the women she idolized. When she taught herself to write and perform songs at 10 years old, she felt a sense of purpose for the first time, and it was clear that their influence was recognizable in her music. It ties together the honest, heartbreaking storytelling of Patsy Cline, the soulful voice of Sade, and the charm and flair of Fran Drescher.
