Blu with a Funk
Blu DeTiger’s funky single “Vintage” has a new video! This new groove showcases DeTiger’s unique bass playing and culture-crossing.
The indie-pop artist from New York hailed much fame from her TikTok videos. Her account currently has a million followers with over 15 million likes. It goes to show that artists in this digital era of entertainment can use social media to their advantage.
The Song
The beat is a hybrid of ‘80s and modern pop. The opening bass riff almost felt like Flea’s opening in “Go Robot”. The keyboards are delicately placed into the background and season it quite well. If this song was played in an episode of Stranger Things, it would camouflage in nicely.
“Vintage” is also DeTiger’s best vocal work yet. Her energy and skill shines in the chorus and tells the listeners who she clearly is as an artist. Her claim, “I’m a vintage girl” covers her personality and her musical style; it’s what makes her stick out from other pop artists. Another solid touch to the vocals were the layers added to the chorus. It further adds to DeTiger’s vintage youth.
The “Vintage” video feels like an indie-made video with precision. The element of dance in the music video is fitting for Blu DeTiger. Dancing was a huge component of 1980s music videos. It was the decade that birthed the marketing idea and it needed something flashy for the visual. DeTiger adds this into her video as an homage to the culturally-rich decade.
More from the Artist
Here is the wonderful bassist covering “Once In a Lifetime” by the Talking Heads. The 1980s is clearly a huge inspiration on her craft as it runs in her veins.
She also announced this week that her debut EP will be released on March 5th with this song included on the tracklist.
