The show featured Lewis singing with his band on a private stage in his hometown of Sydney, Australia. The setup was slightly different because the band arranged themselves in a circle and not the usual stage set up with the members in a line and facing the same direction. This change definitely made the show a lot more intimate.
He started the night with a video where he expresses his excitement about performing again. Shortly after, he performed his first song, “Stay Awake.” It was the perfect lively opener to welcome back his fans. The second song is a stripped-down version of his collaboration with Martin Garrix, “Used To Love.”
One of the standouts from the set was his performance of “Half A Man.” Lewis provided the backstory to the song before singing it. It all stemmed from a phrase that spontaneously popped in his head and is now the most prominent line in the song — “how am I supposed to love you when I don’t love who I am?”
It’s an emotionally meaningful piece for him, and for this song, he sang alone. It was just him and the piano. In what was his most personal performance of the night, you could feel every word and emotion in his voice.
He then went on to perform a cover of Amy Shark’s “Adore.” Lewis dropped this cover on his Same Kind of Different EP, and it blew up. Many people thought it was an original song of his, but he consistently gives credit to Amy Shark.
Lewis also sang a cover of one of his favorite songs, “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls. He got the chance to tour with the band and Rob Thomas in 2019.
To end the show, he performed his latest single, “Falling Up.” Lewis released the song back in March and it quickly accumulated 1.4 million views on YouTube. It is the lead single for his upcoming second album.
Following the show, he did a short Q&A. He revealed that “Falling Up” is his most personal song to date. With the anticipation of his next album building, he teased that the album is nearly complete. He said that he’s two songs away from being finished.
This is exciting news for fans who have been waiting for a new project for two years. “I think my next album is the best I’ve ever done,” Lewis says.
