2020 was a very tough year for all of us, but Ant Clemons and Justin Timberlake’s “Better Days” is here to give us the optimism that 2021 will be just that.
The song first premiered on December 3rd at the Rock The Runoff Virtual Concert organized by Stacey Abrams’s Fair Fight Action, in an effort to mitigate voter suppression and get as many Georgia residents as possible to vote in the US Senate runoffs. You can view their performance for this event on YouTube.
“Better Days” recently went viral as the duo performed their song again, this time for the “Celebrating America” special during the Biden-Harris Inauguration last Wednesday, January 20. The special, hosted by Tom Hanks, garnered a whopping 10.56 million viewership.
As a result, the soulful song quickly took off. It become the #1 on iTunes for song and music video. It even broke Shazam records for the most shazams in a single day with over 90,000!
Their performance and the visuals for the Biden-Harris Inauguration celebration is perfectly uplifting. Clemons and Timberlake both sing with great emotion and soul, which can be felt by every listener. The addition of the choir really helps lift the song even higher for the climax.
Everyone in the video is smiling, rejoicing and having fun.. This video was beautifully directed and produced to emote this feeling of joy and promise.
Clemons and Timberlake both took to Instagram to speak about the purpose and meaning behind “Better Days.” “We were inspired to create something that could serve as a bit of hope through such trying time,” says Clemons.
Timberlake went on to speak of the song in relation to the Biden presidency saying it is a “celebration of everything this administration represents…as well as a reminder to keep our eyes on the road ahead.”
In addition, Clemons revealed that the song will also be his first single off his untitled upcoming album.
This song is the musical remedy we need to get us through these tough times. From the powerful lyrics to the beautiful harmonies, “Better Days” is the feel-good song to lift our spirits and let us know that there is indeed hope coming.
The soulful anthem is available to stream everywhere. There are two versions of the song: a studio version with only Clemons and Timberlake and a live Inauguration version featuring Kirk Franklin.
