I’d say about 70% of the music I listen to most of the time falls under the genre of pop-punk, though lately, I’ve been listening to more and more electronic-synth-pop. Once artist I simply cannot get enough of is Charli XCX. You may recognize Icona Pop’s song, “I Like It,” which is currently taking radio by storm… This track was penned was written by Charli XCX. The talented 20 year old Brit is still a fairly unknown name in the states, although she spent a good bit of 2012 touring with Coldplay.
I found out about Charli when she opened for Fun. at a sold out Los Angeles show. I knew nothing about her when I went in. I bought tickets only the day prior, so I didn’t have a chance to look her up and I had absolutely no idea what to expect.
She stepped onstage in the craziest platform shoes I’d ever seen and introduced herself as Charli XCX. Her sound was great and she looked like she was having so much fun, jumping all around as she performed. How she jumped like that in those platforms is still a question I ask myself every time I listen to Charli. I was very impressed by her performance and kept her in the back of my mind for a while.
Charli XCX released her new single, “You – Ha Ha Ha” in February. This catchy synth-pop song is all about a liar and how badly they ‘messed’ things up by lying. You can check out the official music video for the song right here:
If you like what you heard, you can search Charli XCX on YouTube, since most of her music is currently only available in the UK. Charli’s debut album, “True Romance” drops on April 15. You can see the album art below.
