If you have a heartbeat, you’re aware that Taylor Swift has a new album coming out and it’s darker, better and going to be bigger than ever. If you’re not counting the collaboration she did with Zayn (“I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”) then you know Swift hasn’t released new music in three years. It’s been a long drought in the music industry without Swift’s domination.
And while she’s been in and out of the news for the past few years without saying a word, we know that many have been waiting patiently for a new album. Other artists can’t compare to the hype that the songstress brings when it comes to a new album cycle. Let’s not forget her genius and powerful marketing strategies that she’s carefully put into place with every album she puts out. Needless to say, Swift is the ruler of the music industry and others just follow suit.
So, when we found out that she was coming out with her sixth studio album reputation, we know the music industry was going to spark up once more with sales and chart domination all with the name of Swift intact. The day her lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” came out, she was already dominating and had people talking about the new direction she was heading toward. And just when we thought we had it all figured out with “LWYMMD,” Swift released the opening track “…Ready For It?”
People were intrigued, and needless to say, excited. The album is bound to be the best one from Swift. We know this because several of her friends have stated just how diverse it and fantastic it is. Joseph Kahn, her friend and video producer (Bad Blood, Blank Space, LWYMMD) even went to say what a masterpiece the album is. If that doesn’t get you excited, we don’t know what will. We’re counting down the days until the album’s release, and until then, we’re going to continue to predict what this year’s most highly anticipated album will entail.
So what exactly can we expect from reputation? If there’s one thing we do know, we know that we can expect the unexpected. We can expect something that is creative and brilliant. After all, we are talking about the greatest songwriter of our time.We can expect a piece of work that is going to break records and make history (since it’s already doing so with the lead single). But there is one thing we know we can expect and it’s something we find to be a courageous move for Swift. It’s something that makes us proud to call ourselves fans.
One thing we know we can expect from reputation is brutal honesty, courageousness, bravery, vulnerability, and yes, statement pieces. How do we know this? The album title alone is a statement, letting the world know that this time around, Swift is saying her piece and she’s not backing down.
There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation.
Over the past decade, Swift has faced the kind of criticism no other celebrity has endured. Throughout it all, she’s held her head high and tried her hardest to ignore it. With that criticism came No.1 hits, including “Mean,” and “Blank Space” to name a few. She’s a master at switching the narrative and playing a character the media portrays her to be. Which, we believe she is doing to some extent with this album. Not only will she be addressing her reputation but she’ll be showing us who the real Swift is; the real artist that not many people get to see (hence the meaning behind her album cover).
Reputation isn’t going to be 1989. It’s a darker route but in a way, the route she is taking is a genius move. She’s flipping the script and is letting the world know who she really is. The greatest songstress of our generation is not backing down. She’s standing tall and she’s doing it with her music. How can we argue with that? If anything, we should applaud her work. We should stand back and watch the star rise like a phoenix. She does it all the time.
reputation is set to hit shelves on November 10.
