On Saturday, May 5th, Roche Diabetes Care, the makers of Accu-Chek® Guide, hosted a VIP brunch before the iHeartCountry Music Festival. Beyond The Stage got to be one of the lucky ones to attend and listen to great music for a great cause!
Diabetes is a delicate subject for many people, but this brunch was all about shining the light on an important issue and what we can do to help. According to the American Diabetes Association, the total cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in 2017 was $327 billion. This campaign aims to help those with diabetes have lower costs.
During the brunch, country artist Ben Rue, the face of #BuckOffDiabetes spoke about the ups and downs of having diabetes. Rue has had diabetes since he was young and has now partnered with Accu-Check to launch an educational, diabetes-focused campaign.
The morning of the 5th kicked-off the Ben Rue’s tour across the country to encourage others to get involved in the campaign with brunch and an intimate performance at the Sheraton in Austin. During his performance, Rue performed some of his own songs and a cover of “Bye Bye” by Jo Dee Messina. As an additional surprise to the audience, Rue announced at the end of the brunch that he would be playing the iHeartCountry Daytime Village following the brunch.
So now that we have a glance at the importance of this campaign, here’s what you can do to help.
Share your bull horns to donate a “buck”. Turn your fingers into bull horns and post a photo on social media with the hashtag #BuckOffDiabetes, and Roche Diabetes Care will donate a dollar to diabetes education and awareness. It’s that simple and easy!
