Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak is the collaboration we never thought we needed.
The duo calling themselves Silk Sonic released not one, but two songs. The first single is what is sure to be the first song off the album, titled “Intro”. It is a groovy opening that simply opens its doors and lets us into the world of Silk Sonic.
But our first official single is “Leave the Door Open”, which is a smooth, slow jam that brings back the old school R&B feels! From beginning to end, Mars and Paak sound absolutely perfect together. This song is just pure silk. Reminds us of the old classic love songs our parents used to play.
Mars and Paak also released the music video for the single. They are really putting us in a time capsule because this looks like something out of Motown. The whole band is simply performing in the studio with a fan of girls adoring them from behind the booth.
Both artists are clearly having fun with this project and it shows in the video. It feels like we witnessed a live performance with the energy they were giving. The video already has over 444K views on YouTube within two hours of its release.
Last week, both artists went on social media to announce their joint project called An Evening With Silk Sonic. The album will also feature funk legend, Bootsy Collins, as special guest host. The announcement went viral, gaining over 873K likes on Instagram and over 265.5K likes on Twitter.
If that wasn’t enough, Mars also announced a collaboration with Lacoste. With this, he designed his own clothing line with the company under the name, Ricky Regal. This look fits very well with the old school theme that they’re going for.
Mars hasn’t released an album since his 2016 award-winning album, 24K Magic. The project that brought us smash hits from “That’s What I Like” to “Finesse” was a huge success, going triple platinum and winning seven Grammys, including Album Of The Year. Since then, he’s lent his vocals on several chart-topping songs such as “Wake Up In The Sky” with Gucci Mane and “Please Me” with Cardi B.
Paak’s last album, Ventura, was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number four on the Billboard 200 and marking the artist’s first US top 10 album. The project that featured songs like “Make It Better” featuring Smokey Robinson and “Come Home” featuring André 3000 earned him a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album in 2020.
Not only that, Paak had a role in the 2020 feature film, Trolls World Tour. He debuted his voice acting chops and even had a role in the production of the soundtrack, including “Don’t Slack” featuring Justin Timberlake.
This isn’t the first time Mars and Paak worked together. Paak served as an opening act for the European leg for Mars’s 24K Magic World Tour in 2017. The award-winning tour raked in over $367 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time.
Mars and Paak are highly decorated artists who have achieved massive success with their music. Both are also known for their R&B and funk sounds so this pairing is just a match made in heaven.
They are both coming off of successful Grammy award winning albums. Just between the two of them, they have a whopping 13 Grammy Awards. This could be the biggest joint album since Watch The Throne with JAY-Z and Kanye West.
We had an idea of what we were going to get from Mars and Paak, but “Leave The Door Open” blew our expectations way out of the water. Is it too soon to give out the song of the year award?
