After a multi-year hiatus indie-trio boygenius returns to the sad-girl scene by announcing their first full-length album, the record. The group consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus will release this new creation on March 31st, 2023. Until then, fans can get a taste of the album by listening to their first three singles—“$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry” and “True Blue.”
All three singles showcase the lyrical giants of the supergroup. “$20,” written by Baker, kicks off the list with a bang, highlighting her unshakable rock sound. Next, “Emily I’m Sorry,” written by Bridgers, features her fiercely honest lyricism. And last but certainly not least, Dacus’ “True Blue,” calls attention to her warm and weighty alto voice. On top of the sample tracks from the highly anticipated album, boygenius also announced their appearance at Coachella in April. Other than that, no live dates are planned. However, Bridgers can be seen opening for Taylor Swift in May.
Fans are relieved by the trio’s return, as their first collaboration was all the way back in 2018 with their self-titled EP. With songs like “Me and My Dog,” “Bite The Hand” and “Ketchum ID,” the group solidified their place in the indie genre. Since then, the girls have focused on their own independent projects. During the pandemic Bridgers released her monster sophomore album Punisher. Meanwhile, Baker released another masterful album Little Oblivions and Dacus released her nostalgic Home Video.
The full tracklist of the record is as follows:
- “Without You Without Them”
