Native New Yorker Blake Morgan dropped the latest single “Baby I Would Want You” on April 7, making it the third release from his upcoming album Violent Delights, which is scheduled to drop on May 20.
Morgan is still riding the high of the successes the other two songs from the upcoming album — “Down Below Or Up Above” and “My Love Is Waiting” — experienced. Each of those singles garnered hundreds of thousands of streams of the tracks as well as the accompanying music videos.
“Baby I Would Want You” is an upbeat and energetic track that is basically a love song with the singer expressing that even if the entire world was falling apart around him, he would still want this one person to be with him — and that would make it all okay.
The song outlines all these potential disastrous scenarios but each of them ends with “baby I would want you around,” showcasing how he is ready to tackle everything if he has this person by his side.
Given the state the world is in currently, with the spread of the pandemic still rampant and humanitarian and environmental crises plaguing a lot of different countries, the song kind of fits in perfectly with the shared human experience of these past few years.
“It’s a song unintentionally fitting for the times we find ourselves in,” Morgan said. “It’s an ‘apocalyptic’ love song which declares — in no uncertain terms — that should it all come to an end right now, I love you and I’d want to be with you while it does.”
Pairing the emotional overtones and lyrics along with a steely, plucky electric guitar and a strong drumline makes the song a smooth experience and a largely enjoyable one.
The third single follows up on a myriad of successes for the artist, some of which include the record-breaking 6-year run of sold-out concerts at New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall, about 150,000 miles of touring on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, and the 20 albums he has produced and recorded with A-list artists since his own last solo-artist album release — making him quite a revered New York indie-music figure.
Since 2016, Morgan has performed over 200 times while selling out concerts across the United States, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe. Morgan’s Rockwood concerts have become a New York City word-of-mouth sensation, regularly featuring Grammy and Tony Award-winning special guests who join him for unique on-stage collaborations.
In the studio, Morgan has recorded and produced music’s brightest luminaries, from Lenny Kravitz to Lesley Gore. The recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and native New Yorker is also the founder and President of independent global-music company ECR Music Group. His ideas, opinions, and editorials on music have been published regularly by “The New York Times,” “Billboard Magazine,” “CNN,” “Newsweek,” “Variety,” “The Hill”, “NME,” “The “Huffington Post,” and “The Guardian.”
He lectures frequently, including at The Georgetown University Law Center, California State University, Syracuse University, New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, American University, and at his alma mater, Berklee College of Music. His music advocacy has taken him to Capitol Hill numerous times where, as the founder of the #IRespectMusic movement, he continues to fight for music makers’ rights in the digital age.
“Baby I Would Want You” is available for listening worldwide on all streaming services. A music video will be released later this month as well.
