Ben Platt is returning to Broadway in major fashion.
The Tony, Grammy and Emmy-award winner announced an exclusive concert residency of 18 shows at the Palace Theatre to support the release of his upcoming third album “Honeymind.” General Admission and VIP tickets are on sale now to see Platt from May 28 to June 15.
Given the prestigious reputation of “Playing The Palace” in the Broadway world, Platt seems to be climbing to the ranks of musical and theatre greats— icons like Harry Belafonte, Elvis Presley, Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland have performed and made history there. The Beaux-Arts theatre opened in 1913 but closed in 2018 for a significant renovation and restoration, including hoisting the historically landmarked 7000-ton venue 30 feet in the air.
In the caption of the announcement video, Platt revered “I feel perpetually blessed to be part of the theatre community, and to have the opportunity to perform as myself and from my own perspective in this newly reopened, storied Broadway house is one of the greatest honors of my life.”
The newly revived venue sets the stage for a fresh introduction to the world of Platt’s Honeymind. Attendees can also expect special guests, fan-favorite songs off his first two albums “Reverie” and “Sing to Me Instead” and many other surprises.
The artist tapped fellow Tony® award winner Michael Arden to direct the live performances. Given Platt’s collaboration with Arden, the legacy of the theatre and a musical evolution starting with the newly released folk-leaning single “Andrew” from the album, a run of unforgettable, era-defining performances is promised. This is just the latest in a chapter of an acclaimed career spanning his award-winning performances in “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Pitch Perfect,” and “Parade” to emotional, breathtaking hits like the platinum-selling “Grow As We Go.”
Platt expressed in a release, “My hope is to bridge my musical theater roots that I hold so dear with the world of classic Americana songwriting that I’ve fallen so deeply in love with. I mean, Liza! Judy! ‘Dreams come true’ doesn’t even begin to cover it!”
Platt will be the first of many who will step foot on the new stage and pave the way for unique, epic performances at the Palace Theatre.
