beabadoobee may be considered an alt artist, but that has not stopped her from garnering the attention of the mainstream. At only 21, the icon-to-be has already amassed over 4 billion streams. And since the start of her career, beabadoobee has received praise from major outlets including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Pitchfork. Her debut album Fake It Flowers received critical acclaim and landed her a gig on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Achieving such success at such a young age, the question is always what’s next? The answer—she is a musical artist of course–is to release another album.
Continuing to ride the train of success, beabadoobee’s sophomore album (out July 15th via Dirty Hit) takes the grand name of Beatopia, using the name from a fictional world imagined in the mind of a seven-year-old beabadoobee. Exploring the sounds of pop, rock, and emo, to name a few genres, Beatopia is destined to be an intimate experience.
Released as the album’s lead single, “Talk” is a pop-rock track that focuses on indulgence and being risky. In a press release, the singer states, “I wrote ‘Talk’ just after my first album. I was obsessed with Tuesday because I thought it was the best night to go out, not too much chaos but just enough to have a good time. Generally, it’s about doing things that aren’t necessarily healthy or great for you, but you can’t help indulging. It’s like that unavoidable feeling that you get. You can’t get rid of it, and you know it’s bad, but you love it really, and it’s whatever, so you do it anyways.”
Accompanying the new single is a music video featuring roughly 150 of the artist’s fans and close circle of friends. Watch below.
