After touring with indie pop singer Clairo in 2019, 20-year-old Bea began her 2020 with a BRIT Rising Star Award nomination and on the BBC Sound of 2020 list, only three years after starting her music career as beabadoobee.
She is well-known for her viral song with Powfu “death bed (coffee for your head)” which has racked up over 711 million streams on Spotify where she has accumulated 18+ million monthly listeners. It made it on the Top 20 chart in 27 different countries and was the sixth most streamed song of the summer.
The new single is a very personal and affectionate song that hints at Bea’s softer
music, drawing inspiration from some of her musical influences like Elliott Smith and Daniel Johnston. Recorded at her boyfriend’s home during the pandemic, it is filled
with a sense of longing for both simpler times and reconnection.
“’How Was Your Day?’ is a track that explores all the relationships I neglected when I was away from home,” Bea shared. “I wanted to emphasize the rawness of the lyrics with the song sonically which is why I recorded it on a four-track with all the little mistakes and vocal wobbles included.”
The sentimental music video is a mixture of bedroom and home video-like recordings and includes moments of her with family and friends.
“I wanted the music video to feel nostalgic to me, to include all the people I cared about, it took me back to the time I first started making music,” she said.
