Who would’ve thought we’d see the day that Bad Bunny steps into a WWE ring?
Bad Bunny made a special trip to the WWE Thunderdome at Tropicana Field this past Sunday to appear at this year’s WWE pay-per-view, Royal Rumble. He performed his hit song, “BOOKER T,” alongside the two-time WWE Hall of Famer that the song is named after.
The Latin artist is coming off an impressive year, dropping a 16-track album, EL ÚLTIMO TOUR DEL MUNDO. He was able to get his idol Booker T himself to appear in the music video of the same-titled song, earning 46.9 million views on YouTube. But that’s not all. To put the icing on the cake, the album pushed him to the top, making him Spotify’s most streamed artist of 2020 with 8.3 billion streams!
The Royal Rumble is a easily one of WWE’s most anticipated and most watched pay-per-views, garnering millions of viewers worldwide. It is popular amongst fans not only to see which wrestler will win a championship opportunity at the main event of Wrestlemania, but also to see who will make a surprise appearance at the event, usually from past wrestlers who are well known within the wrestling community. So it was a no brainer to set the stage for Bad Bunny to make his first live performance of “BOOKER T” at the Royal Rumble.
It was a pretty explosive performance, filled with WWE’s signature pyrotechnics. To top it off, Booker T grabbed the mic to chant one of his most iconic lines, which you have to watch in the performance because writing it wouldn’t do it any justice.
Remember that this event is historically known to be filled with a bunch of surprises. This year isn’t any different.
In the last match of the night, WWE superstar The Miz destroyed Bad Bunny’s music equipment as he was entering the ring. This prompted the Latin star to come out and attempt to get in the ring to confront The Miz. Sadly, the referees prevented him from doing so to avoid any match interferences.
Suddenly, The Miz and his tag team partner, John Morrison, were eliminated from the ring and left lying outside of the ring. Bad Bunny looked at fallen tag team and then focused his eyes at the ring knowing that this is his ultimate opportunity.
He quickly climbed up on to the top rope, channeled his inner Eddie Guerrero and executed a frog splash on the two WWE superstars. How is that for a surprise! Guess you can say that Booker T has been showing him…the ropes. (We’ll be here all week, folks)
He posted the clip on his Instagram shortly after. It quickly amassed 8.2 million views, causing a similar buzz on Twitter. It was truly one of the many highlights of the night.
Bad Bunny joins an impressive list of celebrities who’ve appeared in the WWE, joining the likes of Snoop Dogg, Shaq and more! The Puerto Rican artist has stated that he has been a lifelong of the WWE and that “performing at the Royal Rumble is a childhood dream come true.” What a moment that must have been for him to get a chance to perform in the ring he grew up watching. This is something that neither he or the world will forget.
The 26 year old has already made a name for himself, becoming one of the biggest music stars on the planet. But after seeing him deliver that pretty frog splash, the rest of the WWE roster better watch out because Bad Bunny proved that he’s a force to be reckoned with.
