2021 has been quite the year for Canadian artist B00sted. At just 20 years old, he consistently releases music that appeals to a wide audience, encompasses a variety of genres and enthralls you to keep wanting more. His newest single “Broke My Heart” only exemplifies that further.
The young singer-songwriter has been on the rise for a little while now. He released his first album Below Zero back in 2019 and since his EP GPS, the first bit of music we saw from him in 2021, B00sted has remained steady as an artist. With a number of singles over the years, his most well-known being “CBA” with over 1.5 million Spotify streams, he’s only growing as a musician and every new project we see from him continues to illustrate how versatile he can be.
Released on November 26, “Broke My Heart” hits the ground running with chill and composed vibes. The indie/pop/rap song fits into multiple genres, something done intentionally so that people could hear his new style of music. He says “this song is really a mix between my core background of hip-hop/trap, with the new style of pop-rap/indie-pop and pop. This new style of music I’m making really feels natural to me and is a lot more enjoyable and easy to create.” The song features his close friend and rapper Cody Known (a.k.a. KNOWN.) and is B00sted’s sixth single of 2021.
“The inspiration of the song is about love and feeling of loss. KNOWN. and I wrote this song together at my home studio and instantly got inspired after hearing the guitar sample. We wrote and finished the song in a couple hours. The songwriting process was very similar to any other song I’ve worked on with him [KNOWN.] We were both going through a guitar loop kit and found the sample & instantly started coming up with melody ideas. We both then started writing our ideas down, helping each other out with the lyrics.”
Just as described, “Broke My Heart” clearly is about love and feeling of loss. With lyrics like “never really got to show you what I’m about,” the song has a vulnerable tone that many will relate to. The beat starts to pick near the middle, but overall, this single can be described as none other than vibey.
“I feel like this is the first song I’ve released where I do truly believe people will really enjoy. It’s a refreshing new sound and style that I feel like is very unique and true to myself.”
With an evident passion for music and a bright future ahead of him, B00sted is destined to achieve great success. It’s refreshing to hear an artist talk so fervently about their work and we know that will carry over into his future projects. We cannot wait to follow his journey.
