Kicking off 2022 on a high note is B00sted, a 20-year-old artist from Canada who, today, released his EP Hometown. The six-song body of work is just what we’ve been waiting for from the artist.
Back in 2019, B00sted released his first album titled Below Zero. In 2021, he dropped GPS, a six-song EP. Although he has a background in hip-hop/trap, the artist has broken into the pop/indie space more recently. Since his career in music began, he has accumulated just shy of 50,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with one song in particular, “CBA,” reaching over 1.6 million streams.
Three of the six songs from Hometown feature KNOWN., a close friend and fellow artist. Two of them were released ahead of the official EP today. We heard the first, “Broke My Heart,” about two months ago and had nothing but positive things to say about the single. “The inspiration of the song is about love and feelings of loss. KNOWN. and I wrote this song together at my home studio and instantly got inspired after hearing the guitar sample. We wrote and finished the song in a couple of hours.”
Just three weeks ago, B00sted dropped “Close To Me,” his favorite song from Hometown. He says, “I want people to get that ‘feel good’ feeling with this song. It has a super sad and happy vibe, which makes it super easy to throw on, regardless of whatever your mood is.”
The next song on the EP is “Hometown.” A fast-paced, yet somehow chill at the same time kind of vibe is apparent. It incorporates his background in rap but definitely represents how he’s growing and branching out as an artist. This is something B00sted has been cognizant of and really excited about, as he states, “I feel like now I’ve definitely shifted into making more of a pop/pop-rap type of style, and feel like it’s something new & fresh for all the fans to listen to!”
“Fun fact, I wrote the last verse of ‘Hometown’ on the very last day before I handed it in to my mastering engineer. Procrastination at its finest haha.”
Following is another collaboration, but this time with a different artist. “Run To” (feat. LAYNE) is something completely different from “Hometown.” It feels far more emotional with a slower tempo. The collaboration with LAYNE really adds to the song, making it a great song to vibe to.
“Million Miles” just so happens to be a personal favorite. The middle of this song is really where it builds and showcases his talent as an artist. You can tell that this song is something different for him but, without a doubt, it works and we’d love to see more music like this. It’s so refreshing to see an artist explore outside of their norm and he’s doing so seamlessly.
Closing out the EP is “Fly Low” (feat. KNOWN.) This song feels very familiar, similar to the sound that we know and love from B00sted. Each of his collaborations with KNOWN. have hit the mark and we can’t wait to see what the duo does next. It feels like a really great way to round out the EP, as something about it feels like a seal of completion.
B00sted cited that it took about a year to really finish and finalize everything on Hometown. He says, “I was actually finished with about five of the six songs for this project back in April of last year [2021] but it took me so long to figure out what other song I wanted on the EP. The song “Million Miles” was the final one and the second verse of “Hometown” was the very last step to completion. Overall though, everything went pretty smoothly.”
As an artist, he is evidently so passionate about his work and turning dreams into a reality. B00sted is currently in the works to sign his first-ever record deal and says that he cannot wait to start taking music more seriously as a career. We love to see artists this excited about their work and look forward to following along on his 2022 journey.
