Continuing a solo career founded by his incredibly popular former band, 5 Seconds of Summer, Ashton Irwin has dropped his second single of upcoming solo album Superbloom. The single is titled “Have U Found What Ur Looking For?” and channels Irwin’s incredibly powerful and emotive vocal ability. Irwin just recently announced his solo career and has already made his presence known as his debut album is slated for release on October 23rd. 

The singer said that this song was written in just an hour, and it served as the catalyst for the rest of the album. It inspired his confidence in himself as an artist that led to a quarantine spent writing his premiere solo record. Irwin has stated that this song, while upbeat, actually delves into serious subject material like mental health and overcoming one’s fears.

The song itself has a dream-like vibe with a mix of both rocking guitars and melodic rhythms. To juxtapose this upbeat sound with the severity of the lyrics makes it an interesting song to unpack. Irwin has stated that although the melody is seemingly positive, it has depressive undertones of struggles with mental health. Irwin wrote this single with the influence of personal experiences such as his childhood and relationship with alcohol and drugs. The singer sheds light on his most vulnerable moments which makes this track that much more meaningful. 

The song was produced in Irwin’s home in LA with housemate and producer Matt Pauling. The lyrical maturity alone is enough to prove how much time and commitment went into this single.
