At midnight Ashton Irwin released the third single from his upcoming album Superbloom. The newest song “Scar” comes nine days before the album’s release. Focusing on a hard topic, the single speaks on suicide and not giving up. On his socials, Irwin conveyed this meaning and used the song as an opportunity to let people know they are loved.

“Scar” comes out Friday at midnight local time. This song has an important message behind it I’d like to share before you listen. Please hold on. Please don’t quit, please don’t let go, please remember you’re loved. Please don’t commit suicide.https://t.co/PrHpYTjWUJ pic.twitter.com/DyTaHx6FGF

The single comes after the releases of “Skinny Skinny” and “Have U Found What Ur Looking For?” Marking the beginning of his solo career, “Skinny Skinny” spoke on his and many other people’s struggles with body image. The song was accompanied by a powerful music video of Irwin surrounded by mirrors that he later breaks.

He shared a teaser of “Scar” yesterday to get fans excited for its release. The snippet emphasizes his strong rock sound with the loud guitars and drums. It even makes his voice sound like it’s in the background, which I believe is very purposeful. It can give off that feeling of the world around you being chaotic, hurtful and powerful. I’s like he’s lost in the loud music. The drowned-out voice helps the song feel more powerful and share its message.
Watch the teaser below.
After the song was released, Irwin took to Twitter to share his excitement. He even claimed it is his favorite song on the whole Superbloom album.
See what he had to say about “Scar” below.
Wow, very excited this one is out now. Not only is SCAR my favorite song on my record Superbloom. It’s powerful and raw. A message to my family, a message for anyone that listens, about perseverance through periods of intense struggle.https://t.co/Oia1qUDJNp pic.twitter.com/S8GryXzIJE
