This week’s Artist of the Week is VanLadyLove. Get to know the band below and check back throughout the week for the band’s playlist and an exclusive video.
1. Go ahead and introduce yourself!
My name is Travis, and I sing in the band. I’ve been singing since I can remember. In my kindergarten class we had a restroom attached to the classroom. When I would use use it, I would sing at the top of my lungs, not realizing that the teacher and whole class could hear me. That is until my teacher brought it to my parents attention during parent/teacher conference.
2. Where did you get your band name from?
The name stems from my last name, Van Hoff. I think it means something different for every member of the band. For me it reminds me who I am, and who I strive to become
3. How would you describe VanLadyLove’s style?
We love a wide variety of music. It’s hard to get us to agree on things sometimes. I would say that we love our guitars, bass, drums and soaring vocals, but we’ve also been incorporating a modern element into the sound of the music. We have been getting really into synths and drum machines.
4. Any big musical influences?
I have a lot of musical influences. I feel like it changes every time I get asked this question. I love Garth Brooks and George Strait, to Boston, The Beatles, Eagles, Journey, U2, Coldplay, The Killers. And the list goes on.
5. Where do you find yourselves getting most of your inspiration from?
I think we try to stay true to ourselves and write about real experiences. People are able to connect more when you are being real.
6. How have your fans influenced your career and music?
Our fans mean everything to us. I remember the first time we played where I saw fans singing along to our songs and it blew me away. I got choked up and almost couldn’t keep singing. We wouldn’t be here without the people the support us. Our fans are our family.
7. What’s been your favorite place you’ve played on tour?
NYC is always so fun. The big city atmosphere is incredible.
8. What’s your favorite part of the creative process? (i.e. writing, performing, etc.)
I love the whole process, but if I had to choose, I’d say the performing. Thats where we get to see what kind of influence we can make.
9. What do you think is the biggest thing you’ve taken away from your hometown while being on tour?
I love being in the mountains , out of service where I get to connect with my thoughts. On the road I get to see the beauty of the country and I will have a long road of driving to connect with my thoughts. I’m really excited to see where this road takes me.
10. Where do you hope to see VanLadyLove in 5 years?
I hope to see us coming out with a new record. I hope we are progressing and always getting better as people and musicians.
11. With the amount of touring you’ve done, are there any music festivals you’d like to add to your list?
I would love to play all the big festivals, haha. The ones the are close to home that would be a dream to play are Coachella & Life is Beautiful.
12. Dream collaboration?
I would love to do a record with Jeff Bhasker.
13. Favorite tour food?
Burritos
14. Favorite album of all time?
Eagles debut album. The Eagles will always put me in a good mood.
15. If you could go back in time to see any live performance, who would you see?
Eagles with all original members.
