This week, our Artist of the Week is Sydney Jaffe, a singer-songwriter from New York. Learn more about her in her exclusive Q&A with Beyond the Stage.
- Can you introduce yourself to those who may not know you?
I’m Sydney Jaffe and I’m an 18-year-old pop singer-songwriter in New York City.
- How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?
I think I am definitely a pop artist, but my music has little hints of some R&B and soul. I listen mainly to what is in the top 100 so that obviously influences what my music turns out like.
- What are you looking forward to most in 2018?
Graduating high school and having time to actually SLEEP!
- Who are your musical influences?
I think that I really look to Demi Lovato and Hailee Steinfeld for vocal inspiration just because of how powerful they really are.
- What about nonmusical influences?
My parents and my brother have played a huge part in what influences my music as a result of their insane support. Being that I am a really big people person, though, my best friends are always inspiring new content and allowing me to just be myself and have fun do it too.
- If you could collaborate with any musician, who would it be and why?
I don’t think I can choose between P!nk or Demi Lovato. Not only do their songs allow their ridiculously powerful voices to be showcased, but the lyrics really speak to wider audiences than who they truly cater their music too. The ways that they are so authentic is something I really look up to and would be so honored to have an element of in my music.
- What do you hope fans get from your music?
I want fans to get this young and fun idea from my music. I am all about having a good time without losing who I really am, and I want fans to start to look at life in that way too.
- Tell us a little bit about your new song, “Reckless”
Reckless is really a song that I care so much about. The lyrics almost tell a story of so much of what goes on in my head all the time, and I think that for my first single it was really important to present my audience with a song that doesn’t make anyone question who I am.
- What is something that you’ve accomplished so far in your career that you are most proud of?
I’m so proud of Reckless and the next batch of songs that you all are going to get to hear. It was really important for me to start releasing my own music and I am beyond grateful for the way all of this turned out.
- What is a song you wish you wrote and why?
“Imagine” by John Lennon because of how simple yet beautiful it is and the way the lyrics resonate with such a wide variety of people.
- Coffee or Tea?
Tea right now, but I’m usually a coffee girl.
- Current obsession song?
“So Far Away” by Martin Garrix and David Guetta
- Favorite TV Show?
“The O.C.” 100%

Ocean always
