1. Introduce yourself!
What’s up! My name is Spencer and I’m a singer originally from Columbus, Ohio.
2. You make it well-known that you’re a self taught artist – how did you get started, and what was the self-teaching process like?
For me, learning on my own came naturally and was really the best way. I just have my own way of doing things. I’ve pretty much always sang all my life. I really enjoyed listening to all different kinds of music and then developing my own style that was inspired the greats!
I taught myself how to play guitar and a bit on keys kind out of necessity – as I needed something to accompany me when I sing- lol. The process was one that took a few years and in fact I continue to practice – like everything the more you practice the better you get!
3. What was the first song you wrote yourself?
Man, it’s a pretty pathetic song, but everyone’s got to start somewhere LOL. I think it was a song called “You”. I still have it somewhere lol.
4. What’s your favorite song you’ve written, and why?
My favorite song that I have written is one that nobody has heard yet. I wrote it about four months ago, and I’m super proud of it. I’m also super excited for everyone to hear it VERY SOON!
5. Did you teach yourself how to play any instruments? If so, which ones? What is your favorite to play?
Yes! I taught myself how to play guitar, Uke, piano and bass! I’m not a pro level at any of them, but I would say Im best at guitar!
6. Who are your biggest musical influences?
Well that is always a tough one to narrow down. Some of my biggest musical is include Elvis, Marvin Gaye, Bruno Mars, JT and Chris Brown.
The reason these artists is that they all stand out as they are all true performers that have crazy vocal ability, which I love the most.
7. How were you introduced to the R&B genre? What made you decide to pursue that as your main identifying genre?
I have a soft spot for R&B music. I have love R&B ever since I heard Elvis and The Temptations perform it, then I started loving NeYo and Chris Brown and more new age RnB. I think people are drawn to music that is most natural to them. Hard to describe this, but it just feels right. My voice has a bit of soulful grit and I love false – It just feels like the most natural genre for my voice.
8. What is your favorite part of the creative process? (i.e. writing, recording, visual components, etc.)
I love writing!! It’s definitely my favorite parts. It’s so crazy to be able to let all of your creativity and thoughts come together into a song that can be shared with everyone. It’s such a very free and incredible feeling! It’s still crazy that I’m able to be creative for my job 🙂
9. How would you describe your music to somebody who’s just finding out about you?
I would describe it as fresh vocal driven pop RnB with a little twist of soul!
10. What does your career bucket list look like? Any dream collaborations or tours?
I would would love to collab with Bruno, JT of Chris! I really respect them and would learn so much.
Also would love to tour with Taylor Swift. Her fans are crazy awesome and supportive and have stayed with her!
And ultimately, headline a world tour! Just a matter of time and determination.
FUN QUESTIONS
1. What’s the first concert you ever went to?
The first concert I ever went to was the Red Hot Chili Peppers when I was 18. My friend had box seats and it was one of the funnest nights ever!
2. If you had a flux capacitor and a blank concert ticket, what past show/artist would you go see live?
Hands-down Elvis in 1956! That was the year that rock ‘n’ roll was really created. He broke boundaries – and it would’ve been cool to see such an incredible performer right at the start.
3. Any pre-show rituals?
I like to keep it Pretty loose and chill for the most part. I usually will have a coffee about an hour and a half before I go on, and I’ll usually about 50 push-ups to get the blood going! Nothing too crazy though.
4. Is there anything you try to do in new places in your free time while touring?
Yes! I always try to find the best local coffee, food and local gym. I always ask the hotel staff where THEY go and random people on the street. Locals usually know best.
5. Craziest experience while on tour?
Craziest experience on tour was probably a bunch of people finding out where my hotel was and showing up and it caused kind of a scene. I thought it was awesome, but the hotel didn’t.
