This week, we’re introducing you to The Catching – a pop rock band based out of Asbury Park, NJ. With Holden, Jake, Evan and Drew forming an incredible sound, learn more about The Catching below.
1. Introduce Yourselves
Hello! I’m Holden (vocals and bass), I’m Jake (guitar), I’m Evan (guitar), and I’m Drew (drums) and we are The Catching.
2. Describe your sound for someone who hasn’t heard it before.
We’re a power pop rock band with rocking drum beats, driving guitars and bass and we aim for catchy tunes that make you want to sing along.
3. What kind of music influenced you growing up as a musician?
We all grew up on classic rock, but as we have gotten older have developed our own tastes that span many different genres from pop to rap and alternative rock.
4. What kind of music influenced your music?
Bands like Green Day, U2, and Fall Out Boy (or others like them) definitely are a couple of artists that have had a big influence on our sound.
5. You recently premiered music on the famous site, Just Jared Jr. What was that experience like?
Exciting! It’s always really cool to see press and get a chance to engage an audience and we appreciate any love we get from fans!
6. You recently finished recording your album, what was that process like?
Surreal. We always dreamed of having a full-length record of our own and it became a reality last summer. We worked really hard and developed our own sound with the help of some amazing people including our producer, Skidd Mills. It was the first time we got to travel out of New Jersey and we spent a large part of the summer down in Nashville, which is called Music City for a reason. The whole atmosphere really helped our creative process and we were able to record in legendary Blackbird Studios.
7. What’s the best environment to write your music?
It really depends on the stage of the song or where and when an idea pops into your head. A lot of the time I sit at the piano or with my acoustic guitar and write, which spurs some great ideas. Other times when the entire band is together we’ll write a song in a full electric setting at our practice space, which is always fun!
8. What’s your dream venue?
We’ve always dreamed of playing a headline show of our own at a place like Terminal 5 or Webster Hall in New York City. Obviously anything bigger than that is awesome too, but because we have seen so many of our favorite artists perform in NYC it would be amazing to know we are sharing a stage they were on.
9. What’s your favorite song to perform live?
Thats a tough question because we have a diverse set list and enjoy each song for different reasons but I think the band would agree that the energy of some of our more rock oriented songs are really fun to play live. For example, the song “Night and Day” because its heavy and a total jam. We go all out every time. It’s a lot of fun.
10. What’s one thing you can’t live without?
My acoustic guitar. I have a Gibson Hummingbird that was given to me as a gift and the sound is so rich and resonant I absolutely love it. I’m constantly working on song ideas with it every day and its one of my most prized possessions.
Rapid Fire:

2. Song you wish you wrote?

3. Coffee or tea?
