Get to know Savvy and Mandy, a country duo from California, in their Artist of the Week Q&A!
- Can you introduce yourself to those who may not know you?
We are Savvy & Mandy. We are two sisters born and raised in Southern California who write and sing together as a duo in country music.
- How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?
We like to describe our music as country/pop! We feel like it is a seamless blend of both.
- What are you looking forward to most for the rest of 2018?
We are really looking forward playing CMA Fest for the 2nd time on June 9th at 10am on the Radio Disney Country stage, as well as the release of our debut EP, and touring the U.S.!
- Who are your musical influences?
We are influenced by so many different artists, but some of our favorite artists right now are Chris Stapleton, Cam, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, Dan + Shay, and of course, our queen, Dolly Parton.
- What about nonmusical influences?
Savvy: My mama, she’s Wonder Woman. Her patience, endless love, and compassion towards others is inspiring and contagious. I hope to be half the woman she is!
Mandy: My parents (of course). Besides them, I would say Cate Blanchett. I love how bold and empowering she is in the face of injustice, and to me that’s very inspiring. She makes me proud to be a woman!
- If you could collaborate with any musician, who would it be and why?
Mandy and I love collaborating with other artists! Some of our dream collaborations would be with Cam, Sia, Chris Stapleton, Dolly Parton, and Lady Antebellum.
- What do you hope fans get from your music?
We hope that people will feel empowered and inspired by the music. We always try to write music that others can relate to so they can put whatever situation they’re going through into our songs and realize that they aren’t alone.
- Tell us a little bit about your new song, “Wildfire”
Wildfire is about an independent woman who is unapologetically herself and knows what she wants. If you play with her, you’re only going to get burned… because she doesn’t need a man to hold her through the night.
- What is something that you’ve accomplished so far in your career that you are most proud of?
Savvy and I are most proud of how far we have come as artists and being able to pursue our dream as singer/songwriters. We have the best fans in the whole world and couldn’t ask for a better support system. This is what we have wanted to do since we were little and to be able to say that we have already toured the U.S. multiple times, helped heal others with our music, and still have the opportunities to keep growing and expanding as musicians is such a blessing. We couldn’t be more thankful!
- What is a song you wish you wrote and why?
Savvy: I wish I wrote the song “Over The Love” by Florence And The Machine. The lyrics are absolutely incredible and so powerful. The instrumentation starts off very simple, and throughout the song, it continues to grow into this huge masterpiece vocally and musically.
Mandy: I wish I wrote “Sometime Around Midnight” by Airborne Toxic Event. No matter how many times I listen to that song, I always cry. You can just feel the story that he’s telling and it hits you hard. We’ve all been through heartbreak and that song represents it in a perfectly tragic way.
- Coffee or Tea?
Savvy: I don’t like either haha! I’m more of a water gal myself.
Mandy: I love coffee, but tea all the way!
- Current obsession song?
Savvy: “Never Enough” by Loren Allred from The Greatest Showman Soundtrack
Mandy: “In My Blood” by Shawn Mendes
- Favorite TV Show?
Savvy: The Handmaid’s Tale. IT’S SO GOOD.
Mandy: Game Of Thrones!
- Ocean or Pool?
Savvy: I love being at the beach, but I’ll be totally honest I have a fear of swimming in the ocean…So I’d have to say pool!
Mandy: Pool. The beach is too messy haha.
- Favorite movie?
Savvy: I have way too many! Here’s a couple that come to mind immediately: Mulan, Forrest Gump, Anchorman, and Interstellar
Mandy: Hard to pick just one! Some of my favorites are Anastasia, Princess Bride, and The Shining.
