Our Artist of the Week, Captial North, curated a playlist just for our readers. Check out the playlist below, along with why they chose some of the songs!
Here is our chosen playlist, made exclusively for Beyond The Stage Magazine. We had an absolute blast putting this together, and quite honestly, it was pretty difficult to only choose 15 songs (we actually added one more to make it 16.. shhhhh)! One could say that the playlist does not really have a theme, but we will just say that it is… eclectic. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! We also wanted to share the reasoning behind picking a few of the tracks in particular…
Tony
“Only for the night” – RX Bandits
I chose this song because RXB has always heavily influenced me. I love their passion for politics and people. The groove on this song never disappoints me.
“Words in the water” – Thrice
Thrice and RXB are tied for my all-time favorite band and this song really touches my heart. The first time I heard this song I felt something inside me that is indescribable and I’ll always have a place in my heart for it.
“This is not an exit” – Saves The Day
This song literally changed my life. I remember the first time I listened to the lyrics I connected so deeply with them. To this day, it gives me a sense of peace knowing that we are all finite but can be infinite.
“Angeles” Elliot Smith
Elliot smith is the original emo boy and his well thought out lyrics and ghostly voice have always been something I love. I love how vague this song is and how I’m not sure if he’s talking about a girl or the city or what’s going on in his heart. It’s easy to connect with.

“Running In The Night” – FM-84, Ollie Wride
Sonically, this is one of my favorite tracks of all time. I’ve been really into the synthwave/retrowave movement going on lately because although I never lived in the 80s, or will ever live in the 80s, who says I can’t pretend? I find tons of emotion in this song.
“Passenger” – Periphery
I’m a huge sucker for Periphery, and I’m constantly blasting them in my Prius (yeah you heard me). Honestly, I had a really difficult time choosing just one Periphery song, but for some reason this track just always gets me. It hits super hard, has insane guitar melody, and tugs at my heart strings with masterfully crafted lyrics.
“Dark Days” – Local Natives
I have huge respect for these guys, and I love pretty much everything they have ever put out. This track is absolutely so unique and different and offers the listener a very special escape. I LOVE that they featured Nina Persson of The Cardigans, and I think she’s the perfect fit! Such a dark, but beautiful track.
“Nineteen Grams” – Good Tiger
This song has an insanely catchy/strong chorus that I really love. No idea why I like it so much, I just think these dudes are super rad and they’re doing something very different, which is really cool and admirable. Yo, let’s tour together Good Tiger boys, get at us ;)!
