1. Can you introduce yourself to those who may not know you?
Hello! My name is Aries Deng and I am a music producer from Beijing, China that now lives in Los Angeles, CA.
2. How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?
I would describe my music as a digital escape to a world of fantasy or dreamland. It is very anime and video game influenced. It is filled sonically with depth, percussive elements, and emotions. It is a raw representation of what I feel whether it is happy, reflective, hopeful, or sad.
3. What are you looking forward to most for the rest of 2018?
I am looking forward to finishing all of the new music I am currently working on! I hope to release some songs early next year ~ I am also anticipating seeing all of my friends and family during the holidays 🙂
4. Who are your musical influences?
Porter Robinson, Madeon, Illenium, Seven Lions, Joe Hisaishi, Nujabes, and Tupac.
5. What about nonmusical influences?
Hayao Miyazaki, Takashi Murakami, Virgil Abloh, Marvel Superheroes, Assassin’s Creed, Legend of Zelda, the movie Your Name, Sailor Moon, and Harry Potter.
6. What do you hope fans get from your music?
I hope fans are able to get the element of feelings, thought, and storytelling from my music. I want to inspire others, bring happiness, fun, and give strength to those who need it in whatever they are going through!
7. What can you tell us about your new EP, Unexpected Encounters?
Unexpected Encounters is a journey of all of the emotions and experiences I went through in the past year. The people that I’ve met, the ups and downs, and an expression of all of those feelings in music form. I just want to share with people the unexpected events that I came across. Hopefully people can relate to it ~
8. What is your writing and recording process like?
I always start on the piano with chord progressions and then turn them into electronic elements. As for recording, I usually have them with me in the studio so they can better grasp the intention and sound I am looking for. It is always great to get other musicians’ feedback on my songs as it makes the whole recording process a collaborative effort.
9. What is something that you’ve accomplished so far in your career that you are most proud of?
Releasing this EP!
10. What is your go to drink from a coffee shop?
Starbucks’ Pink Drink, which is strawberry acai with passion fruit combined with coconut milk.
11. What is your current favorite song?
It would have to be a tie between 1 7 8 8 – L & 4AM – M U L T I V E R S E and Ekali & Medasin – Forever ft. Elohim.
12. What was the first concert you went to?
Kanye West’s Glow in the Dark Tour in 2008.
13. What is your favorite movie?
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
14. If you could create your dream tour, who would be on the lineup?
It would be a dream come true for me to bring all of my close music friends as support or have an all female tour including people like TOKiMONSTA, Alison Wonderland, REZZ, and Mija.
