Alex Lahey has wanted a good time with audiences for three years. Now on her North American tour she’s singing about her longing–and audiences are singing back.
Lahey stopped at Minneapolis’ historic 7th Street Entry on Tuesday, just ten days after her latest record The Answer Is Always Yes released on Liberation Records.
The Australian singer gave the audience a treat. Lahey played plenty of new songs with pent up confidence. She’s had one whole global pandemic to practice.
Lahey shared The Answer Is Always Yes’ more intimate details with Beyond The Stage in a May 2022 interview, published this past fall. COVID discourse, Australian politics, classism and “Shit Talkin’” were discussed. It was practically a tell all, but nobody could have really known what this record entailed until it actually came out.
Now that Lahey has dished out what is perhaps her most thoughtful record, it’s clear to see where her head was while writing the album in 2020 and beyond.
Crowds will love her shows. Minneapolis already knew the words to all the newbies, and they certainly knew the “classics” (if you can call them that, Lahey has produced many headbangers with catchy hooks during her 30 years on this planet). So much so that Lahey was projecting her voice over a loud crowd without breaking a note.
She has constant energy. Maybe she’s been running…
Lahey’s band rocks too. They can be noisy, carry rhythm and slow down when appropriate. Whatever the tune calls for, Lahey and company are there to answer. The Answer Is Always Yes.
