There’s no doubt that the last year of Alec Benjamin’s life has been crazy. From his song “Let Me Down Slowly” earning him a RIAA platinum certification, to traveling the world several times, to performing John Mayer – it’s been a dreamy year. But Benjamin made his mark on New York City on Friday night as he performed one of his last shows in North America for the year.
Benjamin flawlessly executed his set, playing songs from his mixtape Narrated For You, and a mixture of other singles throughout the night. It is hard to come by artists these days that have the ability to take your breath away just by playing an acoustic guitar and telling their story. Benjamin is the exception to that rule, he’s known for his ability to tell stories from such a fresh perspective, but witnessing the songs come to life in person is a sight to behold.
The night started off with “Boy In The Bubble,” “Swim,” and “Outrunning Karma.” The crowd screamed every word to every song with every ounce of love and passion they had. Every person in attendance hung on every word, and completely immersing themselves in the world Benjamin has created through his music. Throughout his set, he played every song fans would of wanted to hear from Narrated For You, in addition to some unreleased songs and singles he’s released over the last year. He closed out the night with fan favorites “Jesus in L.A.,” “Water Fountain,” and “Let Me Down Slowly.”
From the second he walked on stage, the audience was instantly captivated. He had a way of making the sold out Terminal 5 crowd feel like they were watching a performance in their living room. The intimacy and honesty in his lyrics paired with the passion in his voice made it hard to look away for his entire set.
Alec Benjamin is wrapping up his last few North American shows for the year, but is sure to make the rounds again next year with new music in tow. He’s not to be missed, and is certainly an artist that should be on everyone’s radar because he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
