Singer, songwriter and producer gnash recently released his debut album we and his fans, along with us, cannot stop listening. The record features a total of 13 songs including eight new tracks, including his newest single “t-shirt” which has over 2.5 million streams since its initial release in December. The record showcases true talent and gives listeners a deeper look into the heartbreak that shaped the singer into who he is.
gnash is known for his emotional sad songs, but positive outlook. This record shows just how terrible any type of heartache is. Wearing his heart on his sleeve, he sings his broken heart ballads so beautifully we can’t help but feel his pain. While listening you can immediately tell he is pleading for his ex to take him back, by keeping each song raw and full of emotion.
“insane” takes us inside his brain, and back to a time where he wasn’t okay. “I’ve spent all this time pretending I’m okay. Well, I’m not okay.” When you hear lyrics like that, you really feel for the artist, and some can even relate. It makes you realize they’re normal people who get their hearts broken and sometimes just are not okay.
Not every song on the record is like that, for example, “dear insecurity” starts off sad, and seems like he is almost giving up, but when the song comes to a finish, he ends it with “dear insecurity, I am proud of who I am, nobody’s gon’ tell me who I am or who I can be, I am taking my life into my hands, so tired of hiding who I am, I am me” and it’s amazing because its like he finally realized his worth and showcased that in a beautiful way.
“we” is truly one of a kind, and the record is unlike anything we have ever heard. After an emotional roller coaster full of heartbreak and raw emotions, gnash was able to create an amazing product that he should be proud of. The ability to put your all into a song, and be honest with yourself and listeners can’t be easy, but he did it and did it well.
The album is available on all streaming sites and we highly recommend taking a listen. Find it here on Spotify.
