On Friday the 13th, two highly anticipated albums were released. Justin Bieber Purpose and One Direction’s fifth album Made In The A.M. Both albums aren’t similar they are completely different albums. According to Rolling Stone, Bieber’s album, is like his comeback album, while 1D’s is an almost a farewell album (but we know they are just taking a break, not breaking up).
Beliebers and Directioners have been going back and forth on who would be more popular and sell more albums. While both artists have said in many interviews that there is no competition and they both support each other.
The guys of One Direction went in with the goal to make this the best album they’ve done in their 5 years together. This would be the first album without former member Zayn Malik also.
The album opens up with the track “Hey Angel” that has the influence of the band The Verve’s hit song “Bittersweet Symphony”. One Direction experiment with many different sounds raging from 1970s to 1990s. Using influences from Fleetwood Mac to Coldplay. “Never Enough” is almost a 80s like influence with modern brass section in the background. The track “Olivia” is a sweet song where we get to hear Niall Horan and Liam Payne’s low vocals and a nice folky guitar that has a Beatles influence.
It’s safe to say that fans will be satisfied with the album. One Direction love their fans and it’s also proof in the track “History”, where Niall Horan has said they brought in some fans in the studio to sing in the background.
