Ever since Demi Lovato has separated herself from her Disney Channel image, she has become more outspoken about topics on mental illness and bullying. Now with her release of her fifth album Confident, Lovato isn’t afraid to show that she’s grown up, but also she isn’t afraid to keep speaking her mind and show some “sexiness”.
Confident opens with the track “Confident”, a up tempo and fun song along with “Cool for the Summer”. “For You” and “Stone Cold” seem to be the deep songs about wishing someone the best and heartbreak. Lovato unleashes a voice in both tracks that is so strong, that you can feel your heart breaking, but don’t worry fans will fall in love with these tracks. One particular track “Lionheart” may remind fans of Lovato’s 2013 album Demi, because of the sound and also the lyrics: “And we stand together facing a war. And our love is gonna conquer it all. We are lionhearts”.
Finally the album ends with the track “Father”. The song is dedicated to Lovato’s father, who passed away in 2013. Lovato seems to forgive her father and always wished him the best even though there was a war going on inside of her. The song is a tear jerker. We can feel and hear the pain in Lovato’s voice. The song is definitely one of Lovato’s top songs of her career.
Confident is an album fans are going to accept. However, new listeners may emerge because of Lovato’s vocals on each track. Lovato has showcased her best vocals yet on this album.
