After connecting on Instagram, Addict. and Rewind began working together, forming the ultimate dream team. The pairs 4 song EP, Wish I could call you mine, resembles a “summer love that never blossomed”, with flavors of ukulele and pop rhythms.
“We tried putting our lives together to create a story that could mirror our own personal experiences. It talks about the phases of a summer love – a love that can no longer go on.”
Addict. is a producer and singer all the way from Milan, Italy. He has produced tracks for Giorgio Armani, Biagiotti, Byblos and more. In 2019, he decided to debut as Addict., resulting in over 23 million streams on Spotify, alone. His music ended up on the popular YouTube channel, the bootleg boy, where Rewind became familiar with him.
Rewind is from Italy, as well- a coastal city called Taranto. He started off producing hip hop tracks until transitioning over to lo-fi/pop during the lockdown, which was supported by Addict.. One year ago, Rewind didn’t even have a Spotify profile and now, has more than 9 million streams on Spotify, 160k on Apple Music, and 250k on Soundcloud.
“The EP has been designed chronologically. It goes from an uplifting, pop vibe to more alternative and sad. The last song is the most chaotic on the EP.”
The first song, “Summertime (With You) ft. LosingLucid” describes the overwhelming feeling of being in love. The duo created this one by playing a ukulele riff that they ended up using. They wanted this track to have a hip-hop feel, which is where LosingLucid came in.
Next on the EP is “I Dream Too Much”, which compares the concept of dreams versus reality. The alternative pop track has a catchy rhythm with surrounding sounds that transcend you into a fantasy land. The pair pulled inspiration from an artist they admire called Verzache for this one.
“Have you ever been in love?” is third on the EP, and discusses how love can sometimes be fake or a distorted reality. The melancholic melody contrasts nicely with the track’s pop sound.
Last, but not least, is “Tokyo”, the conclusion to the unrequited love story. Addict. describes it as “a hypothetical trip – running away from the sadness and loneliness”. The song has a similar vibe to their early releases, with a lo-fi/pop beat.
“We chose this city as our title because we imagine the song like a big metropolis filled with people. At the same time, it can make you feel alone, like a grain of salt in the ocean. We wanted to represent those feelings by adding reverb and delays all over the song, and think it came out pretty good.”
Addict. and Rewind hope this EP can help listeners feel less alone. When things don’t workout in a person’s favor, they can find a way to relate to this music. Sometimes, situations are out of our control, especially when it comes to love.
The two hope to perform live across Europe soon and eventually, around the world.
“We don’t know what will come next, but we will be ready for whatever that is, always. We will continue producing music and making hits. We enjoy experimenting with sounds so I guess, you can expect the unexpected from us”.
Wish I could call you mine is the unrequited love story that will leave you wanting more. Whatever dreamy music comes next from this Italian duo, we will be ready for it!
